Join us for an exploration on the nature of dreams and how they can affect our lives, from a historically informed folk magical perspective. By looking at European traditions surrounding dream divinations, we can glean much about how people of the past valued the dream realms for information and prophecy. The practical applications of this folklore will be covered in depth, so that people feel inspired to put this knowledge to use. A sampler of historical dream Materia magica will also be given, which includes plants, animalia and stones. Traditions such as dream potions, conjuring visions at midnight, dream amulets, transgressive dream procedures and dreaming on Auspicious eves will be addressed. This specialty knowledge is rare and not common to find in typical modern works on dreams. May we learn then from those who have walked before us, how to encounter dreams as potent informants of day to day life.

My family and I woke up this morning with a dry sore throat due to the wildfire smoke here in Portland Oregon. Marshmallow, Mullein, Elecampane, and Angelica are all staples of the medicine cabinet during this difficult time.

Join us at the shop in the heat of July (we have AC folks!) while we are visited by .cultus for a full weekend of workshops during Melissa’s visit to Portland. She will also be offering tarot readings during open hours through her visit.

“Melissa’s divination style is rooted in the belief that the right question can be a key to deeper understanding. Her readings are conversational and exploratory, guiding each question as it leads deeper into the next. She shares details of her analysis in a way that is easy to understand, inviting querents to examine the cards for themselves, which can be chosen from a small selection of art decks. “

Walks in’s welcome but we highly recommend booking a reading via the events page linked in our bio!

Our friend Sylvia Friday, aka Woodland Weaver returns for a sweet midsummer themed weaving workshop. Come celebrate the dark moon and weave your dreams into a wild-harvested cattail 9-11 strand plait. Bring some of your favorite fresh high summer plants (yarrow, rose, iris leaves, dandelion stems, juncus, daylily, etc). Stems of these plants can be woven into your plait; flowers can be incorporated too! We will weave their summertime magic into the plait. You will learn basic techniques and patterns with the freedom to explore your personal style and creativity.

And lastly, Madrone will host another intimate plant spirit journey with dear Yarrow. Being an herbalist, gardener, or plant person is not only about practically working with plants, but includes building a relationship with them. During this two hour intimate circle, we will sip on fresh tea together before we journey to meet the spirit of the plant. This non-entheogenic trance space is meant to be one wherein folks can explore their innate intuitive capacities, build or deepen relationships with the plants themselves, and share their experiences with other practicing folks.

Links to tickets are in our bio, via the events page! See you soon 🌸
