Donor of the Month: Carrico Family Foundation! 👓

A heartfelt THANK YOU to the Carrico Family Foundation for their generous grant in 2024 supporting our School Vision Screening Program!

Thanks to the kindness of community partners like the Carrico Family Foundation, we're able to bring free vision screenings to schools across Oregon, helping identify potential vision concerns that might otherwise go unnoticed.

Each year, our program screens approximately 200,000 students, helping children get one step closer to the clear vision they need to learn, grow, and thrive! 📚👀

We are incredibly grateful to the Carrico Family Foundation for investing in the sight and futures of Oregon's students. Together, we're making a lasting difference, one screening at a time!

💙🧡 Restoring Sight. Renewing Hope. Changing Lives.

Imagine struggling to see the faces of your children clearly or missing out on the everyday moments that make life so meaningful.

For one Oregon parent, that reality is about to change thanks to our Patient Care Program, which helps individuals access critical sight-saving surgeries and treatments they might otherwise be unable to afford.

Recently, we received a heartfelt letter from M.V., a patient preparing to receive cataract surgery at no cost to them:

💬 "This surgery is not simply about improving my eyesight-it gives me hope that I can feel like I have my life back again."

As a parent of teenagers, M.V. shared what restoring their sight will mean for their family:

💬 "I want to see their faces clearly, participate in activities with them, and be a more interactive and involved parent. Being able to see better will help me reconnect with those everyday moments that are so important and precious."

And perhaps most beautifully:

💬 "Thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping me see a brighter future-literally and figuratively."

This is why we do what we do. 🧡

Since 1959, our Patient Care Program has helped Oregonians access essential eye care, giving individuals and families opportunities for a brighter future.

To our generous donors, dedicated Lions Clubs, medical partners, and everyone who makes this work possible: Thank you for helping us change lives, one patient at a time.

💙🧡 ONE MONTH IN, AND LOOK AT WHAT WE'VE ACCOMPLISHED! 👓

It's been just over a month since we kicked off our Back-to-School Vision Screening Campaign, and our team has been hard at work helping students across Oregon see clearly and succeed in the classroom!

Our incredible team of 15 School Vision Screening Event Managers has been traveling across the state, reaching students in both rural and urban communities. And the results are AMAZING! 👀

📚 180+ screening events coordinated statewide
👓 32,000 students received vision screenings
🧡 6,100+ students referred for comprehensive eye exams
💙 $19,000 RAISED through our Back-to-School Campaign so far!

But beyond the numbers, it's the impact on students, families, and school communities that makes this work so meaningful.

We recently received a heartfelt letter from Jeremy Hurl, Principal at Willamina High School, sharing his appreciation for our team: "Ensuring that students can see clearly and have access to the resources they need is an important part of helping them succeed in the classroom and beyond."

It's messages like these that remind us why we do what we do! 💙

And we're not stopping here!

Thanks to our generous sponsors, Lions Clubs, community partners, and individual donors, we've already raised $19,000 toward expanding our reach. But our ultimate goal remains the same: to screen EVERY student in Oregon!

We'll be continuing our Back-to-School fundraising campaign through Thanksgiving, and there's still time to make a difference!

🦁 Sponsor a Day of Screenings: $500

🦁 Sponsor a Week of Screenings: $2,500

Every contribution, no matter the amount, helps us reach more students and identify vision concerns that might otherwise go unnoticed.

Join us in helping Oregon students see a brighter future! 👓

👓 Glasses donated in Oregon are making an impact thousands of miles away!

Earlier this year, Carol Mayer reached out after returning from a mission trip to Cañar, Ecuador, where donated glasses helped their team serve nearly 700 people in communities throughout the Andes.

Many individuals walked from surrounding villages and began lining up as early as 4 a.m. for care. During the week, the team was able to provide eye care and fit glasses for nearly everyone they served, including many people who had never before seen a doctor.

Carol shared, “Thank you again for partnering with us in Cañar, Ecuador. What you do there is a blessing to so many!”

We are so grateful to everyone who donates used glasses and helps give them an opportunity to serve someone new. 👓🧡

👁️ Happy World Sight Day! 🦁

Today, we join people around the world in recognizing the importance of healthy sight and access to eye care.

At the Oregon Lions Sight & Hearing Foundation, sight is at the heart of what we do. From screening students in schools across Oregon to helping connect children and adults with exams, glasses, low vision services, and critical treatment, we believe everyone deserves the opportunity to see their world clearly.

This World Sight Day, remember to by making your eye health a priority, scheduling regular eye exams, and encouraging the people you care about to do the same. 🧡💙

Together, we can screen, treat, save, and restore sight and hearing.

🦁 Partner Highlight: Central Vision Clinic 👓

We’re proud to recognize Central Vision Clinic in Monmouth, a valued partner supporting OLSHF’s Patient Care Program.

Their team is prompt, knowledgeable, organized, and courteous, and they consistently provide the information our committee needs to review cases efficiently.

Thank you, Central Vision Clinic, for helping make it easier for OLSHF to connect Oregon adults in need with financial support for essential vision care beyond an eye exam and glasses. Your partnership helps us continue our mission to protect and restore sight. 💙🧡

👂 October is National Protect Your Hearing Month!

Hearing health matters at every age. Exposure to loud noise can cause permanent hearing loss, but there are simple ways to help protect your hearing, including lowering the volume, stepping away from loud environments, taking breaks from noise, and wearing proper hearing protection when needed.

At the Oregon Lions Sight & Hearing Foundation, hearing is an important part of our mission to screen, treat, save, and restore sight and hearing. Through programs like ROAR! Hearing Assistance, we help Oregonians access hearing aids, fittings, and other resources that can make a meaningful difference in everyday life. 🦁👂

This month is a great reminder to take care of your hearing today and help protect it for the future. 🧡💙

👂 Even Peppa Pig is helping families learn about hearing health!

In this episode, Peppa’s little brother, George, gets a hearing aid. His family learns that although his hearing screening as a baby did not identify hearing loss, his hearing changed as he grew.

It’s a helpful reminder that hearing needs can develop or change throughout childhood, and support is available. 🦁

At the Oregon Lions Sight & Hearing Foundation, our KEX Kids Fund helps eligible Oregon children and young adults access hearing aids and other essential sight and hearing services.
