Being in Balance Physical Therapy Concierge Physical Therapy services available for people and their pets. Quality care focused on how each body is unique. Hello! Everyone's body is unique.

Home visits and office visits available in Portland, OR / Vancouver, Wa. I'm Jennifer Benton, a physical therapist, certified canine rehabilitation therapist, and a certified professional canine fitness trainer (PT, CCRT, CPCFT). I started my own physical therapy business for humans and dogs due to frustration over healthcare companies focusing on profit instead of high-quality care. Working directly for you means that I can focus completely on doing my very best to meet the needs of you and your pet. Having a treatment plan that reflects this leads to lasting results. Together we can unravel compensation patterns and help your body (or your pet's body) to become more physically resilient. As a member of your healthcare team, I will also partner with your existing support system (your doctor, pilates instructor, pickleball coach, horseback riding instructor, massage therapist, your pet's veterinarian, you name it!) to create the most cohesive team possible. You will leave our sessions empowered with useful techniques that will help you (or your pet) to return to the activities that you love. For physical therapy that is...

I got the nicest compliment from a client today.

She said, “You go through my issue with a fine-toothed comb. It makes me feel more secure about what’s happening. This isn’t McDonald’s physical therapy. This is the Chez Panisse of physical therapy!”

She gets it. 💛

This is what is it’s all about in Canine Physical Therapy—giving the dogs a chance to communicate with us. They may have never had that chance before. 🐾💛🐾

Agree 💯. If your dog is limping and/or has had behavior changes, please see a canine rehabilitation professional.

My brain is tired! I just spent the last 3 days learning new techniques for…

whiplash, headaches, sciatic pain, and so much more!

I learned how to feel exactly where your head, neck, and spine need attention.

I’m looking forward to getting back to work this week!

THIS! This is such an important part of canine rehab and fitness training.

Just because the dog CAN do the movement does not mean that they SHOULD be doing the movement.

Working with a professional will help you determine if your exercise routine is right for your dog or get you started on the right path 🐾💛🐾

A ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ review from a client…😊

This review has been a long time coming. I never write reviews, which is why the delay, but Jen’s work has left a lasting impression because of her integrity.

Jen is not a cookie-cutter physical therapist. Her approaches are not “traditional,” but as a structural therapist, I immediately recognized Jen’s deep integrative knowledge and her boldness in carrying it into her work.

She helped connect a childhood head injury to my current symptoms—something other professionals completely missed—and she helped uncover obvious (to her) surgical scar tissue impacting mobility and movement patterns.

Jen is one of a rising minority of young PTs who elect not to go into traditional institutional PT, because they refuse to “forget” what they actually know about the body in order to fit into a corporate insurance model.

Jen’s practice stands out for being truly integrative and holistic while completely grounded in science and pragmatism. I cannot recommend her enough.

I can’t wait to start rehabbing injuries from these devices. What could go wrong??

“AI is entering the physical realm in a big way. Case in point: I spent Mother’s Day e-hiking with bionic leg boosters.

I strapped my two-year-old in a hiking carrier, and went for a walk up a winding dirt trail. The robotic hip motors whirred and a mechanical force tugged at my quads.

As the incline got steeper, I opened the companion app on my phone and pressed 'Boost.'

My stride quickened. The whirring got louder. As the AI marched me toward the summit, I enjoyed the view. Thirty seconds later, the surge of power was over, and the legs returned to the gentler Eco mode.

These motorized supports were once reserved for military, heavy industry and mobility rehabilitation. Now, they are light and affordable enough for regular folks—regular folks who want to feel superhuman, that is.

Two weeks of testing didn’t transform me into Iron Man. But the rig did make me want to sprint everywhere—and I hate running.”

Just like people, dogs can benefit from having their fascia assessed and treated.

There are different types of myofascial release, some more gentle than others.

Barnes Myofascial Release is never forceful or painful. It works *with* the body.

I love being the first person to do myofascial release on a dog…When they feel
It for the first time, they often have a very unique expression on their faces…as if they are feeling things happen inside their body in a new way!

See below for signs that fascial restrictions may be effecting your dog’s comfort.
