🚩 What are the biggest red flags in health advice on social media?

In this clip, Dr. Guillermo Ruiz (Dr. Guillermo Ruiz NMD) shares a few things that immediately make him skeptical of health content online, especially when it’s being marketed to people living with chronic illness.

One big red flag? Someone with an impressive physique claiming that ONE supplement, diet, or lifestyle hack is the secret to their results, without acknowledging the many factors that influence health or the biological differences between individuals.

Another? Conspiracy-based marketing that positions a product or treatment as something the medical establishment doesn’t want you to know about. As Guillermo points out, there can be legitimate criticisms of our healthcare system, but that doesn’t automatically make an alternative claim credible.

In Episode 101 of The Autoimmune Wellness Podcast, I sit down with Guillermo to explore something I think our community really needs: how to stay curious and open-minded about emerging health approaches without abandoning critical thinking.

We discuss how to evaluate research and health headlines, recognize misleading marketing, understand the limitations of personal testimonials, and weigh the potential risks of supplements and emerging treatments.

As someone who has spent years working in the AIP community, I know firsthand that promising ideas sometimes emerge before the research catches up. But that doesn’t mean every new trend deserves our trust—or our money!

The goal isn’t to become cynical about health information. It’s to become a more informed consumer who knows how to ask better questions.

Research, advocacy, and community—there’s a lot happening in the autoimmune world, and we’re catching up on all of it for Episode 100 of The Autoimmune Wellness Podcast! 🎉

In this quarterly update, Mickey Trescott welcomes back three contributors to share what’s happening beyond the day-to-day of managing autoimmune disease.

🔬 Sybil Cooper, PhD discusses new research exploring the experiences of people with rheumatoid arthritis who followed AIP, including what helped them succeed and what their diets looked like a year later.

💜 Jaime Hartman, M.Ed., NBC-HWC recaps the Autoimmune Association Hope Journey Walk, where Team AIP showed up alongside the broader autoimmune community to raise awareness and support research and advocacy.

🌿 The AIP BIPOC Network shares updates on the AIP BIPOC Network’s community outreach, resource access, and work exploring the intersection of autoimmune disease and menopause.

In this clip, Jaime takes us behind the scenes of the Hope Journey Walk in Washington, DC—from an AIP-friendly breakfast provided by Urban AIP to walking around the beautiful Tidal Basin with fellow patients, advocates, and supporters.

What stood out most was the atmosphere: optimistic, enthusiastic, and incredibly supportive. A reminder of how powerful it can be to connect with people who understand what living with autoimmune disease is like.

We’re so grateful to everyone who helped make Team AIP’s participation possible, whether in DC, Michigan, or virtually across the country!

🍲 Comment CHOWDER and I’ll send you the recipe straight to your DMs! 👇

Soup season is here, and this Salmon and Mushroom Chowder with Tarragon and Dill is one of my favorite ways to make a cozy, nutrient-dense meal without spending hours in the kitchen.

This chowder is packed with tender chunks of salmon, earthy mushrooms, parsnips, and a creamy coconut milk broth. Fresh tarragon and dill give it a delicious herbal flavor, while a squeeze of lemon brightens everything up.

The best part? It comes together in about 35 minutes, making it perfect for a weeknight dinner!

It’s also completely dairy-free, gluten-free, and compliant with Core AIP, so it’s a great option for anyone in the Elimination Phase of the Autoimmune Protocol.

If you’re looking for a comforting fall meal that’s packed with protein, healthy fats, and plenty of vegetables, give this one a try!

ADHD in women doesn’t always look the way we’ve been taught to expect.

As Dr. Jolene Brighten explains in this clip, sometimes the diagnosis is hiding in the effort, not the outcome.

A woman might look incredibly capable from the outside while privately struggling with perfectionism, chronic overwhelm, procrastination, forgetfulness, or the enormous effort it takes to keep everything together.

In Episode 099 of The Autoimmune Wellness Podcast, Jolene and I explore ADHD through the lens of women’s hormones, perimenopause, brain health, and autoimmune disease.

And perfect timing: Jolene’s new book, ADHD and Women, is out tomorrow! 📚 I’ve already read it (and flagged MANY pages!). Check it out!

What happened to quality of life when people with active inflammatory bowel disease followed the Autoimmune Protocol? Swipe to see what researchers found.

In this small pilot study, 15 participants with active Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis transitioned to AIP over 6 weeks, followed by a 5-week maintenance phase.

While 73% achieved clinical remission by week 6, researchers also found significant improvements in IBD-related quality of life—including bowel symptoms, emotional well-being, social functioning, and ability to participate in daily activities.

And some improvements were reported as early as week 3.

Want to dig into the research for yourself?

The New Autoimmune Protocol has officially been out in the world for four months, and one of my favorite parts has been hearing from those of you who are actually using it—trying the updated protocol, cooking the recipes, navigating reintroductions, and finding an approach to AIP that works for you.

I’ve loved reading your reviews and hearing what has resonated most. Thank you so much to everyone who has taken the time to share your experience! 💛

Swipe through to read a few of the reviews that have come in ➡️

If you have the book and haven’t left a review yet, I’d be so grateful if you would. Reviews help others discover the book and understand how it might support their own AIP journey.

And if you still need a copy, comment “BOOK” and I’ll send you the link!

What does the future of autoimmune care look like when conventional medicine, nutrition, and lifestyle aren’t treated as competing approaches?

In this clip, Micah Yu, MD | Integrative Rheumatologist shares what gives him hope: lifestyle medicine is becoming a bigger part of the conversation in healthcare, research into integrative approaches continues to grow, and future physicians may have more tools for supporting people with autoimmune disease.

In Episode 097 of The Autoimmune Wellness Podcast, I sit down with Dr. Micah Yu—a rheumatologist who is also board-certified in internal medicine, integrative medicine, and functional medicine, and who lives with autoimmune arthritis himself.

Together, we explore what integrative rheumatology can actually look like, including how conventional treatment can work alongside nutrition and lifestyle, common misconceptions about rheumatology, how to get more out of your appointments, and how to build a healthcare team that supports the full picture.

One of the biggest takeaways? Autoimmune care doesn’t have to be either/or. The goal is to have access to the tools that make sense for your individual situation.

I walked my home trail here in Portland for the Autoimmune Association Hope Journey Walk, thinking about just how much autoimmune disease has shaped my life—and how grateful I am for the people I’ve met along the way.

I was definitely missing my friends Jaime Hartman, M.Ed., NBC-HWC, Urbana, Heba | Integrative Health, and the rest of Team AIP as they walked today in Washington, DC and Michigan! I wish I could have been there with everyone, but it felt good knowing we were all walking together from different corners of the country.

After more than 15 years in this community, I’m still passionate about making autoimmune disease more visible, better understood, and better supported. There is so much work left to do—and so many people who deserve answers, resources, and hope.

A big thank you to the Autoimmune Association team for continuing to raise awareness for autoimmune disease and for creating opportunities like this to bring our community together.

Comment RECIPE and I’ll send this Cilantro Coconut Chicken and Rice recipe straight to your DMs! 🥥🌿

This is one of my favorite kinds of meals: everything comes together in one Dutch oven, it makes plenty of leftovers, and you get a complete, nourishing dinner without a complicated process or a sink full of dishes.

Tender chicken thighs, basmati rice, coconut milk, bone broth, shiitake mushrooms, ginger, garlic, green onions, and cilantro cook together for a cozy, flavorful meal that’s Modified AIP-friendly and on the table in about an hour.

I originally shared this recipe as part of the Beyond the Recipe series on The Autoimmune Wellness Podcast , where my friend Mary and I talked about why one-pot meals can be such a helpful strategy for making AIP work on busy or lower-capacity days.
