Capital Integrative Health Capital Integrative Health is a functional medicine practice focused on root-cause healing.

We help individuals understand why symptoms persist and support long-term health through personalized, integrative care. Capital Integrative Health started with the collaboration of Dr. Andrew Wong (Internal Medicine) and Elizabeth Baer (Acupuncture), two healthcare practitioners determined to create better, more comprehensive ways to serve their patients. Our shared vision of providing progressive whole health care found a welcome audience with many other healthcare veterans, allowing us to expand our clinical team to include a wide range of offerings, including: integrative primary care, functional medicine, functional nutrition, acupuncture, personal training, bodywork, psychology services, and wellness therapies including IV nutrition, IV ozone, infrared sauna, and red light therapy. Together, our mission is to educate, lead and inspire each other towards optimal health and true healing. We are excited to bring a level of care that empowers both patient and practitioner to learn from one another and share this learning with our community.

Beta-amyloid and phosphorylated tau are protein aggregates that disrupt extracellular and intracellular neuronal function respectively. Clinical trials to reduce beta-amyloid have obtained mixed results at best

Since beta-amyloid is an anti-microbial peptide and is generated by the body in response to inflammation, what if Alzheimerโ€™s was a result of either excess generation of beta-amyloid or inadequate detoxification of beta-amyloid from the lymphatic system. Dr. Horowitz at ILADS discussed the historic reversal of blood markers of Alzheimerโ€™s with antimicrobial therapy in a patient with dementia.

Contributors to Alzheimerโ€™s and cognitive impairment include genomics, vitamin deficiencies, poor diet, lack of sleep, polymicrobial infections including bacteria (including Lyme) as well as viruses, fungi, parasites; mycotoxins, environmental chemicals and heavy metals; lack of oxygen including from sleep apnea, poor circulation and low nitric oxide as seen in cardiovascular disease as well as gut and dental inflammation, hormone deficiencies, traumatic brain injuries and psychological trauma.

What if there were underlying root causes to all chronic illness?

This is the premise from leading physician Dr. Richard Horowitz, a pioneer in complex and chronic disease. He uses a 16-point model called MSIDS to systemically address and treat chronic illness. As patients get back to baseline and improve, we can reverse engineer and shift to the model for prevention and wellness. ILADS Dr. Richard Horowitz

More info about their healthy and tasty gut repair powder that we had with our Mediterranean food here: https://gutscience.info/?variant=b

If you have been on antibiotics (they are in the drinking water too), have chronic stress, and/or are exposed to toxins, periodic gut repair is in order. Longer courses would be helpful for people dealing with more long-standing gut challenges. The gut is the gateway to health, and Gut Science is at the forefront of optimizing gut health! ๐Ÿ’œโ˜บ๏ธ๐Ÿฅ—

The quadriceps are the musculoskeletal key to a healthy blood sugar and metabolism.

Within 3-5 minutes of eating sugar or carbohydrates it is helpful to do squats, ankle rolls or calf raises. This brings the glucose into the muscles more efficiently and keeps the metabolic furnace burning. ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ

We have been seeing a lot of patients recently with a parasitic infection called Babesia. This parasite invades red blood cells and utilizes the oxygen inside the red blood cells, leading to classic symptoms like crushing fatigue, night sweats, chest pain, air hunger, but also mood changes including anxiety and depression.

As a stealth infection this is hard to diagnose. Advanced testing is often necessary to identify this parasite and turn patientsโ€™ lives around with targeted treatment. ๐Ÿก
