Just a Girl with Spots Psoriasis Blog Hello, I’m Joni and I’m a girl with spots. Being a teenager with psoriasis made me feel secluded and incredibly self-conscious.

I was diagnosed with guttate psoriasis when I was 15 and recently diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis at 38. Growing up with this disease has impacted my confidence and relationship with my body. I refuse to let psoriasis define who I am, but it has given me a new purpose and community. It has helped me become more aware of what my body + mind need in order to live a happier, healthier life. I never want to let my diagnosis’s stop me from doing the things that bring me happiness. This blog is for sharing my personal experiences living with psoriasis and now psoriatic arthritis. I ask you to keep in mind that we are all different. Something that may work for me, may not be the best approach to take for you. I am not a health care professional, so I highly recommend that before starting any treatment you talk to your health care team.

✨ Honoring World Psoriasis Day ✨

A little reminder that psoriasis is so much more than skin deep, and so are you 💗

Some days it’s itchy, burning, achy, and exhausting, and other days it’s just part of life that you’ve learned to work around, and both kinds of days deserve a little kindness from you and from the people around you.

Today is about awareness, but it’s also about the people who get it without needing it explained, flakes and flares and all. I am so thankful for the incredible psoriasis community and their love.

Not every day is a win, and everyone is in a different place with it right now, but you have my support 🤝💜

Most days I push through because what other choice do I have? But this audio nails how it feels to work through a flare. Sending lots of love to everyone pushing through in pain, I see you 👀🩷🔥

I’m all in on being a sports mom, but after 2 field hockey games, 3 lacrosse games, 1 lacrosse clinic, cheer practice and a cheer competition between Friday and Monday, my whole body feels like I was the one who just played even though I sat safely on the sidelines. Living with psoriatic arthritis means my joints are feeling it after a weekend like this 🔥

It’s worth it every time, because watching my girls play, compete, and cheer each other on is my favorite part of any week. If you’re parenting through a packed sports weekend with a chronic condition, what helps you recover?

The coffee never waits for my hands to be ready, so every morning i negotiate with my body and power through the stiffness and swelling
If you have your own version of this routine, tell me about it in the comments, because the best tips I’ve ever picked up came from someone who lives it too.

Even though I’ve been living with psoriatic arthritis for 6 years, I’m still learning about it. I could describe 6 years ago what was happening to my fingers, but who knew it had a name and even a cute little nickname!

Please see full Prescribing Information at https://bit.ly/44R6o2W. I knew it was time to try a biologic when my joint pain and stiffness from my psoriatic arthritis started controlling my life. Here are the signs that made me have that conversation with my doctor.
TREMFYA® (guselkumab) is a prescription medicine used to treat adults and children 6 years and older who also weigh at least 88 pounds (40 kg) with active psoriatic arthritis. I am an actual patient.

SELECT IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION: TREMFYA® is not for everyone; only your healthcare provider can decide if it’s right for you. Do not use if you are allergic to TREMFYA®. TREMFYA® is a prescription medicine that may cause serious side effects, including serious allergic reactions, infections, and liver problems. TREMFYA® affects your immune system. It may increase your risk of infections and lower your ability to fight them. Please read the Important Safety Information and the Medication Guide for TREMFYA® to learn more about these and other risks for TREMFYA®. Discuss any questions you have with your healthcare provider.

In consideration of the time Joni spent, an honorarium was provided by Johnson & Johnson.

Some ideas are better than others, but my 2 were a hard pass! What is the worst treatment advice you’ve ever gotten? It doesn’t have to just be about psoriasis or psoriatic arthritis. Share in the comments 👇

As someone who’s lived with psoriasis for a long time, I know how much everyday choices, like what I wear and use on laundry day, can affect my skin’s comfort.

For Psoriasis Awareness Month in August, all Laundry sent me a thoughtful box of products, laundry accessories, and such a kind note recognizing my work in the psoriasis community. 💜🧡

all® free clear is free of dyes and perfumes, which matters when your skin treats fragrance and dye like a personal attack, and carries the NPF Seal of Recognition. Knowing a product has been reviewed as safe and non-irritating for people living with psoriasis brings real peace of mind, especially after years of reading every ingredient label in the laundry aisle💧

They also included a journal called “For All Your Thoughts,” which is a bold choice for someone like me who has never had a small number of thoughts. 😂

Thank you, all Laundry, for showing the psoriasis community so much care. Go give them some love!

The comments and DMs I get about my psoriasis and PsA are wild, magic potions, $99 cures from Dr. WhatsApp, blaming my treatment plan, all of it. I’m not going anywhere here, but I’ve recently joined Drops, a new social health platform designed for people living with chronic, rare, and serious health conditions to have safe and vulnerable conversations. I feel like I’m able to be more myself there without the negative responses, so I’ll be sharing things there I don’t usually post here. Link in bio if you want to join me there 🩵
