wearingmytruth.etsy.com There are cards, gifts, and celebrations for everything—but not nearly enough for what we survive, what we lose, what we gain, and everything that happens after. I created Wearing My Truth to make space for the lived experience: the waiting, the healing, the milestones, the scars, the humor, and the everyday realities of living after some very irregular sh*t. Through real stories and meaningful products, I make things for the people who live this life—and the people who love them.

As a daughter AND wife of a firefighter, I’ve seen what this job takes out of people.

We call them heroes. But sometimes we forget they’re human.

They need looking after, too.

So this National First Responders Day, let’s remember to check on the people we count on to show up for everyone else. 🚒❤️

I had the kind of liver disease people are willing to feel sorry for.

I was diagnosed with primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) in 2010. I spent six years waiting for a liver transplant before finally receiving one in 2022.

My liver disease wasn’t caused by alcohol.

And I’ve noticed that somehow makes my story easier for people to sympathize with.

But I’ve always wondered why.

Because liver failure is liver failure. The fear, the uncertainty, the possibility of not making it home.

None of that disappears because alcohol was involved.

Yet somewhere along the way, we decided that some people deserve compassion while others deserve a lecture.

So here’s something I’ve been thinking about this Liver Awareness Month:

If the only thing I changed about my story was the cause of my liver failure, would you still see me the same way?

I needed a liver. But asking for one? I couldn’t do it. 😩

Three months after my transplant, I’d written my donor’s family a letter, but still felt called to do more to honor his legacy.

So I turned my hardest ask into something people could wear instead of say.

And Wearing My Truth was born. 💚

A lot has changed since 2023! The living donor search shirts are still here, but now we’ve got matching buttons, liverversary goodies, Mercedes-scar love 🚘, and even a coloring book for my chronic illness girlies!

Know someone searching for a living donor? Send this their way. 💚

My Liver Story | Part 5: I’m Back 💚

For years, I could see what liver disease was doing to my body every time I looked in the mirror.

But after my transplant, something changed.

And it wasn’t just my eyes.

Sometimes getting your life back starts with recognizing yourself again. 🥹💚

My Liver Story | Part 4: The Call 💚

Six years on the transplant waiting list.

Three phone calls.

And one night that changed everything.

On August 3, 2022, at 2 a.m., my phone rang.

I had no idea that the next few minutes would change the course of my life.

My Liver Story | Part 3: The Time I Lost 💚

The hardest part of being sick wasn’t always what was happening to my body.

It was everything happening around me that I couldn’t be part of.

And some of those moments I don’t even remember.

Looking back, that’s the part that still hurts.

October is Liver Awareness Month 💚

Back in February 2024, I sat down with Shirley Brill of (Educating Minorities About Transplants) to share my liver transplant journey.

I thought this would be a good time to revisit that conversation and share a few pieces of my story.

Part 1 takes us back to 2009, when some abdominal issues eventually led to two diagnoses I never saw coming.

And then 2013 came. 👀

Thank you, Shirley, for letting me share our conversation again! 💚
