Northern Nevada Public Health NNPH (formerly WCHD) protects the health of Reno, Sparks, & Washoe County residents. We are located at 1001 E. 9th Street, Building B, Reno, NV. to 5 p.m.

Northern Nevada Public Health's mission is to improve and protect our community’s quality of life and increase equitable opportunities for better health. NNPH is comprised of five divisions: Administrative Health Services, Air Quality Management, Community & Clinical Health services, Environmental Health services, and Epidemiology and Public Health Preparedness. In partnership with Join Together Northern Nevada, Washoe County Sheriff's Office, 152nd Airlift Wing, and Reno-Sparks Indian Colony, we're working together to keep our communities safe.

Safely dispose of unwanted, unused, or expired medications to help reduce the risk of accidental poisonings and overdoses in our community.

Respiratory virus season is here, and Dr. Danika Williams, NNPH Epidemiologist, is breaking down the weekly snapshot to help you stay prepared.

In our first report of the season, flu activity remains low but is higher than usual for this time of year. COVID-19 activity is continuing to decrease after rising in late summer, while RSV activity remains very low.

Bird flu has been confirmed in geese in the Reno/Sparks area.

The Nevada Department of Wildlife, alongside state partners, is responding to an outbreak of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) in multiple flocks of geese.

If you encounter a goose that appears sick, please give it space! Avoid touching or moving the bird, and keep children and pets away.

Signs of illness can include unusual head or neck movements, difficulty walking, poor coordination and lethargy.

Report sick geese to NDOW at (775) 688-1500.

The public can play an important role in helping reduce the spread of bird flu by knowing what to look for and taking the proper precautions.

Breastfeeding can be overwhelming and physically demanding for a new mom, so it’s important to have her back!

Dads and partners play a huge role in breastfeeding success. And WIC is here to help you do so!

To help support your breastfeeding partner:
Lighten the chore load for your partner! Mom needs to focus on resting, healing, and nursing.
Anticipate mom’s needs during feeding, like cleaning bottles and breast pumps and bringing her snacks and water.
Share baby duties! Make sure to handle non-feeding tasks like diapering and burping while mom rests.

Funding will support projects aligned with the 2026 Community Health Needs Assessment priorities:

Mental health
Access to health services
Economic stability
Health risk behaviors and early detection
