More summer time reminders! We’ve seen lots of contact dermatitis from poison ivy recently. If you think you might have been exposed while outside, wash your hands and face with water and soap as soon as you can (or even better shower and change clothes too). It is the oil from the plant that causes a rash in some people. So remove the oil from the skin and clothing and it can diminish the body’s rash.

We are victims of our own success! Many parents have never seen or had measles, mumps, whooping cough, meningitis, or polio so there is not always a feeling of urgency to get children protected from illnesses they have never thought about. Well, to hear about the improvement through science reminds us to stay on schedule for protection with these vaccines.

If you have weapons in your home keep them locked away and when you travel to see family or friends this summer ask the questions about gun safety before visiting. Even play dates for young children the question can be asked “Just curious if you have any handguns, are they locked up?” just as simple as “Does Johnny have food allergies? Va**ng is prevalent in our middle and high schools. It is easy to hide so parents need to know that is not safe and address va**ng before you even think your kids are being exposed. Believe it or not, your kids are listening to you.
