Being drug free isn’t only about what young people say NO to...it’s also about what they’re choosing YES to.
Henrico Prevention Services is proud to celebrate Red Ribbon Week, October 23 through 31!
This year’s theme is: Make a Difference. Be a Hero. Stay Drug Free.™
Red Ribbon Week gives families, schools, and communities an opportunity to talk with young people about healthy choices, substance use prevention, and the power they have to influence their own lives and the people around them.
And we want young people IN the conversation...not just listening to one.
Try this:
Ask: “What does living drug free make possible for YOU?” Maybe it’s sports, future goals, mental wellness, friendships, college, a career...let them name what matters.
Give them the mic: Invite young people to create a poster, video, pledge, or message encouraging their peers to make healthy choices. Prevention becomes more powerful when youth have ownership of the message.
Throughout Red Ribbon Week, talk about choices...practice ways to handle pressure...identify healthy ways to cope with stress...and remind young people that asking for help is a strength.
Because prevention isn’t about fear.
It’s about helping young people build the confidence, skills, support, and agency to make decisions that protect the future they want.
❤️ Make a difference.
❤️ Be a hero.
❤️ Stay drug free.
