Last week, HCA Virginia was proud to serve as a platinum sponsor of CrossOver Healthcare Ministry's Compassionate Care Awards: Lifelong Service, Lifelong Care at The Jefferson Hotel. HCA Healthcare Capital Division President Dr. William Lunn joined other division and Virginia hospital leaders for an inspiring evening celebrating individuals who have dedicated their lives to providing compassionate care to those in need.

For more than 40 years, CrossOver Healthcare Ministry has worked to expand access to high-quality, compassionate healthcare across Central Virginia. With the support of more than 500 volunteers, dedicated staff and community partners, CrossOver served more than 7,000 patients last year.

We're grateful to support CrossOver's mission and celebrate this year's honorees, whose commitment to service continues to make a meaningful difference in our community.

Rain or shine (and there was plenty of rain!), our HCA Virginia colleagues showed up for heart health at the Central Virginia Heart Walk in support of American Heart Association - Virginia! ❤️

With 44 teams, 370 registered participants and more than $45,000 raised, we're grateful to everyone who walked, donated and supported this year's event!

We also celebrated several colleagues and their achievements:

❤️ 2026 Central Virginia Heart Walk Chair: Devin Tobin, chief operating officer of Henrico Doctors’ Hospital, helped lead this year's event in support of heart health.

❤️ Heartsaver Hero Award: Jill Gray, BSN, RN, cardiac surgery nurse navigator at Henrico Doctors’ Hospital, was recognized for her lifesaving actions when her husband, Jon, suffered cardiac arrest during a neighborhood walk. Jill immediately began Hands-Only CPR with help from a neighbor until emergency medical services arrived. Today, Jill and Jon share their story to encourage others to learn CPR and take action when seconds matter most.

🏆 Move More Challenge Winner: The HCA Heart Walk Warriors team, led by Pauline Jefferson, practice manager at Primary Health Group Johnston-Willis, won for the fifth consecutive year!

🏆 Top Fundraising Walker: Becky Oatts, retired clinical exercise specialist at Henrico Doctors’ Hospital, earned the top spot after raising an impressive $15,989 for heart health!

In all, contributions from HCA Virginia, the HCA Healthcare Foundation and our colleagues totaled $230,000 this year in support of the American Heart Association.

A special thank-you to our colleagues from Chippenham & Johnston-Willis Hospitals, Henrico, Parham & Retreat Doctors' Hospitals, TriCities Hospital and Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center for braving the rain and showing up for our community! Your support helps the American Heart Association advance lifesaving research and build healthier communities.

đź©·October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month! How much do you know about your breast cancer risk?

Dr. Ryan Gabriel, a radiologist at Henrico Doctors’ Hospital, part of Henrico, Parham & Retreat Doctors' Hospitals, recently joined 12 On Your Side to share important insights about breast health, including:

- The three Ws: How weight, working out and w**e (alcohol consumption) can influence breast cancer risk.

- Breast density: Why dense breast tissue can make cancer harder to detect on a mammogram and when additional screening may be recommended.

- Hormone replacement therapy: What to discuss with your doctor about its potential impact on breast cancer risk.

Breast cancer screening isn't one-size-fits-all. Your personal breast cancer risk can help guide what's right for you.

Your age, family health history and other breast cancer risk factors can all play a role in when to begin screening. For people at average risk, screening mammograms often start at age 40, but your doctor can help you decide what’s right for you based on your health history and personal risk. Swipe to learn more about screening guidelines.

During Medical Assistants Recognition Week, we join our broader HCA Healthcare network in recognizing the medical assistants (MAs) who help create positive patient experiences and support care teams every day.

With knowledge across clinical and administrative settings, MAs work alongside physicians, nurses and colleagues to help care for patients, assist with procedures and support office operations.

Medical assistant training is one of 28 workforce development program areas offered by HCA Healthcare annually, helping colleagues build skills and grow their careers. Those skills make a difference every day as our MAs help care for patients and support the communities we serve.

To all our MAs, thank you for making a difference for the communities we serve.

To our pharmacy colleagues, thank you for the expertise, collaboration and compassionate care you bring to patients and communities every day.
