💪 WORKING OUT: VARIETY VS. STRUCTURE — WHY BOTH MATTER!
Here’s something I’ve learned over the years as a personal trainer: People love variety, but variety without structure doesn’t always lead to progress!
Some clients love changing their workouts constantly. Others prefer doing the same routine every time.
But here’s where both approaches can go wrong!
Constantly changing exercises without understanding their purpose can leave you dependent on your trainer. Repeating the same routine without knowing how to progress can become boring and discouraging.
✅ THE BENEFITS OF STRUCTURE
* Builds confidence and proper technique.
* Helps measure strength and progress.
* Develops consistency and independence.
* Teaches you which muscles you’re working and WHY.
⚠️ WHEN ROUTINE BECOMES A PROBLEM
* Workouts become boring.
* Progress stalls without new challenges.
* Certain muscle groups may be neglected.
* Motivation disappears without clear goals.
HERE’S WHAT I WANT YOU TO UNDERSTAND!
There are foundational exercises you’ll see repeatedly throughout your fitness journey.
🏋️ Chest: Chest presses and flyes.
🦵 Legs: Leg presses, extensions, squats and lunges.
💪 Back: Rows and pulldowns.
These exercises aren’t repeated because your trainer has run out of ideas. They’re repeated because they serve a purpose!
Repetition doesn’t mean you’re not progressing!
You can perform the same exercises for years and continue getting stronger by gradually increasing the challenge.
MY ADVICE AS A PERSONAL TRAINER?
Don’t just hire a trainer to give you a workout. Hire a trainer to teach you HOW to train!
Understand WHY you’re doing each exercise, HOW to perform it correctly and WHEN to increase the challenge.
A great trainer doesn’t just make exercise interesting. They teach you how to become confident and independent!
Consistency builds strength. Structure builds progress. Knowledge builds independence.
