Piedmont Community Services is working with an individual whose well pump needs to be replaced, leaving her without running water in her home. The cost of repairs is more than she can currently afford, and other resources are being explored to help address the issue.

She is also preparing for a major medical procedure that will make it difficult for her to carry heavy water containers or manage the added challenges of living without running water. In the meantime, help with basic household and personal care supplies would make daily life more manageable while a longer-term solution is pursued.

Requested items include:
-Cases of bottled drinking water
-Gallons of drinking water for cooking and other needs
-Body wipes and bathing wipes
-No-rinse body wash and shampoo
-Deodorant
-Hand sanitizer
-Disposable plates, bowls, cups, and utensils
-Paper towels
-Toilet paper
-Disinfecting wipes
-Household cleaning supplies

Without assistance, she remains at risk for difficulty maintaining personal hygiene, increased physical strain, emotional stress, and challenges meeting basic daily needs. These supplies would provide temporary relief and help her maintain a safer, more manageable home environment while efforts continue to restore her running water.

Any assistance with these items would be greatly appreciated and would help ease some of the burden during this difficult time.

Freedom to keep a yard from getting away from you. Freedom to take care of your own place instead of waiting for someone else to do it. Freedom from the quiet pressure that builds when a simple tool is missing and the work keeps piling up.

That is what ordinary objects can do. A w**d eater, a set of supplies, a working piece of equipment — they give a neighbor room to stay independent, keep the household stable, and move through the week without that extra weight.
CareForward connects those practical gifts to verified needs nearby. Neighbors show up. Small acts keep larger problems from taking root.

A donated w**d eater is helping a neighbor keep the path to his door clear.

Piedmont Community Services entered a request for someone whose entrance had grown thick with brush and w**ds. Getting in and out of the home had become difficult, and the overgrowth was keeping him closer to home than he wanted to be.

A member of Rocky Mount UMC donated a w**d eater. That tool gives him a way to maintain the area around his home and use his own entrance safely.

Practical support like this reduces isolation and helps people stay connected to their community. This is CareForward at work: a verified need met when a neighbor showed up.

The gap between need and help is smaller than we think.

Sometimes it's the distance between a doorstep and the person standing on it. A basket of essentials, passed from one pair of hands to another. A neighbor who showed up.

Isolation among seniors and people with disabilities remains one of the most persistent unmet needs in community health. The people who could help often live a few streets away. What's missing is the connection between them.

That's the part we work on. CareForward connects people in need with community members who donate their time, talent, or resources, whether that's delivering essentials, offering a ride, sharing a skill, or simply keeping someone company.

When a match becomes a knock at the door, the distance closes. That's the whole idea!

Food Country USA and the Grayson County Sheriff's Office-Virginia showed up together for a family in our community.

A young household facing temporary financial strain needed infant formula, baby food, and groceries for their one-year-old. These partners purchased what the family needed so their child can stay nourished while the household works toward more stable footing.

This is how community works. A verified need. Practical help. Neighbors and local partners meeting it before a hard season turns into a larger crisis.

A Washington County family had to leave their home after severe mold made it unsafe. The children’s twin mattresses and some toys could not be kept.

Through CareForward, neighbors and partners helped them set up a safer space. The family received two new twin mattresses, replacement toys, a bookshelf, a coffee table, and cleaning supplies.

Ahava Healthcare provided two new twin mattresses, still in the box. Green Spring Presbyterian Church, Abingdon, Virginia provided cleaning supplies and personal hygiene products. Toys for Tots Wythe County donated replacement toys for the children.

A family in transition now has clean essentials and a more stable place to land. This is CareForward at work: a verified need met when partners and neighbors show up.

A Washington County family needed adaptive equipment for a middle school student who uses a wheelchair. A stander helps the student stand safely during the day, supports physical therapy goals, and eases the strain that comes with long hours seated. Equipment like this is costly and often hard for families and schools to obtain.
A neighbor donated one.

That gift is now where it was needed most — supporting comfort, strength, and the student’s school day. One practical act connected a verified need with someone willing to show up.

This is what CareForward is built for: neighbors meeting real needs so families can stay more stable and kids can participate more fully.

A brand-new Chromebook left Roanoke in a box and arrived the next day!

A volunteer donated the computer and arranged shipping as soon as the request came through. Piedmont Community Services had submitted a verified need for a neighbor who lost access to a computer after a major change in living situation. With it, she can keep virtual appointments, join classes, and stay connected to community support.

A working computer is a practical tool. It helps someone remain connected and stable instead of cut off from the people and programs that keep life on track.

Neighbors showed up with a truck, a trailer, and a washing machine!

Two members of Rocky Mount UMC donated their time and equipment. Two Martinsville neighbors helped deliver and install it. Together they answered a verified request from Piedmont Community Services for a resident starting over in a new apartment.

Everyday items like this help turn an empty space into a working home. Showing up with what is needed keeps people stable and independent.
