Before treatment. During treatment. And in the months after treatment. 🎀

Your body’s needs may change throughout every part of the breast cancer journey.

There may be days when maintaining adequate nutrition and hydration is the priority.

There may be times when protecting muscle and strength becomes especially important.

And after treatment, you may be asking an entirely different question:

“How do I start rebuilding my strength and taking care of my body again?”

This is where individualized nutrition, movement and metabolic-health support can become an important part of caring for the whole woman alongside her oncology care.

You deserve support through every stage—not only when treatment begins.

🎀 TAG a friend who may need this message.

And if this is your journey, DM Balanced Wellness your email address and we’ll send you a complimentary 30-day meal plan complete with recipes and shopping lists to help support your nutrition and metabolic health.

If you find you need additional guidance, Balanced Wellness also offers individualized nutrition and fitness health coaching to support you before, during and after treatment in coordination with your oncology team.

I want to get off the floor without thinking about it.

Carry my own suitcase.
Keep up on vacation.
Stay flexible.
Protect my bones.
Keep my muscle.
And still be doing all of it when I’m 70. ❤️

So these are the things I personally prioritize:

🏋️ Strength training 3x a week
🧘‍♀️ Yoga + stretching
🚶‍♀️ Daily movement
💧 Water + electrolytes
🙏 Prayer and protecting my peace
🥩 Protein + nourishing food
🧬 And paying attention to my hormones—estradiol, progesterone and testosterone—as part of individualized care.

Because somewhere in perimenopause and menopause, the goal changed.

I don’t want to be smaller.
I want to be harder to make frail.

I’m Tammy Ryan, MSN, FNP-C, CFMP, Nurse Practitioner and owner of Balanced Wellness.

Sometimes the life God is building for you looks nothing like the life you imagined.

And then one day, you look back and realize… His plan was better than anything you could have dreamed for yourself. 🤍

Trust Him.

Have faith even when you can’t see what’s coming next. Believe with your whole heart that God is working in the waiting, the disappointments, the closed doors, and even the seasons that don’t make sense yet.

And please—stop comparing your journey to someone else’s.

Their timeline is not your timeline.
Their calling is not your calling.
Their story was never meant to be yours.

You were created intentionally. You are fearfully and wonderfully made by God. There is beauty in who you are, where you’ve been, and who you are becoming.

Keep praying. Keep believing. Keep walking forward.

God’s plan for your life may be far more beautiful than the one you had planned for yourself. 🙏🤍

“Perhaps you were born for such a time as this.” — Esther 4:14

I don’t want to be 25 again. I want to feel GOOD at 50, 60, 70 and beyond.

And I’m tired of women being made to feel vain for saying that.

I want to protect my bones and muscle.

I want to sleep.

I want my brain functioning.

I want to exercise and remain strong.

I want intimacy and sexual health to still matter.

And I don’t want hot flashes, night sweats, vaginal symptoms, or other menopause symptoms dismissed because “that’s just aging.”

Estradiol, progesterone, and testosterone are all part of normal female physiology—but they have different jobs, different indications, different benefits, and different risks.

Menopausal hormone therapy has strong evidence for treating vasomotor symptoms and preventing bone loss and fractures while appropriately used. Micronized progesterone is important for endometrial protection when systemic estrogen is used in women with a uterus and may benefit sleep for some women. Testosterone is also a female hormone, but the strongest evidence for systemic testosterone therapy is currently for appropriately evaluated postmenopausal women with HSDD. HYPOACTIVE SEXUAL DESIRE DISORDER…. NOT your health !!!

BHRT may not be YOUR fountain of youth. BUT for many women it has changed their lives!! Including MINE!
It is not a guarantee of longevity. And hormones are not appropriate for every woman.

But wanting to understand your hormones, treat bothersome menopause symptoms, preserve function, and have an evidence-based conversation about hormone therapy?

There is absolutely nothing frivolous about that.

I’m Tammy Ryan, Nurse Practitioner, Certified Functional Medicine Provider, and owner of Balanced Wellness.

Apparently at this stage of life I need to schedule my workout AND schedule my recovery. 😂

I noticed it myself.

More stiffness.
More joint aches.
More soreness.
And workouts I used to recover from quickly suddenly seemed to follow me around for DAYS.

That sent me down the same rabbit hole many of my perimenopause and menopause patients are in:

“Why does my body suddenly feel so different?”

Estradiol isn’t only about menstrual cycles and hot flashes. Estrogen receptors are found throughout the musculoskeletal system, and estrogen plays roles in muscle, bone, tendons, connective tissue, and pain physiology.

That doesn’t mean every aching knee or sore hip is caused by declining estrogen—or that BHRT is a treatment for every joint complaint.

But when joint pain, stiffness, poor workout recovery, sleep changes, hot flashes, and other symptoms begin appearing during perimenopause or menopause, hormones deserve to be part of the conversation.

For me, the answer wasn’t to stop moving.

It was learning to work with my changing body: evaluate my hormones, prioritize protein, protect my muscle, strength train, sleep, and give recovery the same respect I give the workout.

Because apparently I can still train hard.

I just can’t pretend I’m 25 and recover on caffeine and poor decisions anymore. 😂

At Balanced Wellness, we start with a comprehensive consultation because I want to understand you before I decide what you need.

Then we review your labs, your hormones, thyroid, metabolic markers and cortisol results and start connecting the dots.

From there, I build a plan around your actual results.

That may include BHRT or TRT, addressing insulin resistance and weight, thyroid treatment, or a personalized supplement protocol—and I’m not interested in selling you a cabinet full of supplements. We replace and support what you actually need.

Then my team helps you implement the plan through personalized nutrition, health coaching, fitness, strength training, habits and accountability.

And we don’t stop there.

We follow your progress, repeat what’s appropriate, and adjust your plan as your body changes.

Because you’re not paying me to simply hand you a prescription.

You’re investing in a team that actually manages your health with you.

I’m Tammy Ryan, Nurse Practitioner, Certified Functional Medicine Provider and owner of Balanced Wellness.

If you’re ready for healthcare that feels personal again, come work with me and my team at Balanced-Wellness.com.

Consult → Test → Understand → Personalize → Treat → Coach → Reassess.

That’s the Balanced Wellness difference: BHRT/TRT, thyroid and metabolic health, insulin resistance and weight management, targeted supplements based on your individual needs, nutrition, health coaching and personalized fitness—all built around YOU, not a prepackaged protocol.

Your outcome is the priority—not how many prescriptions or supplements we can sell you.

Here’s WHY your liver, bile and bowel movements matter when you’re on hormone therapy.

Your body doesn’t simply use estrogen, progesterone or testosterone and make them disappear.

It has to metabolize the hormones and eliminate their metabolites.

Your liver helps process them.

Your kidneys eliminate many metabolites through urine.

Some metabolites can enter bile → intestine → stool.

And with estrogen especially, intestinal bacteria can deconjugate some estrogen metabolites, allowing them to be reabsorbed and circulated again rather than continuing toward elimination.

THAT is why I ask my hormone patients about constipation, bowel movements, liver health, gallbladder problems, alcohol, medications, nutrition and gut symptoms.

I’m not trying to “detox your hormones.”

I’m making sure we aren’t treating your body like the prescription is the only thing that matters.

BHRT and TRT are part of the plan. Your physiology is the rest of the plan.

That’s the Balanced Wellness approach.
