For those of a certain age, this image probably sparks a wave of nostalgia.

Blue...red.
Blue...red...yellow.

And so it went on.
Testing memory.
A fun game, but with a serious purpose.

Memory and decision-making are vital components of cognitive health, and cognitive health plays a critical role in physical wellbeing. The connection between mind and body is powerful. When we challenge both together, we can help people stay active, engaged, and independent for longer.

Highlights from AARP ATC Summit 2026

We were delighted to participate in the recent ATC Summit from AARP AgeTech Collaborative in Washington, DC.

The Summit has become a yearly fixture in our calendar, bringing together some of the brightest minds in AgeTech to share ideas, learn from one another and build new connections. We’re always just glad to make it into the room, thanks to Gladstone for representing GaitBetter

At the Summit itself, we heard from a wide range of speakers sharing insights into the current state of AgeTech, as well as the opportunities, challenges and emerging trends shaping the sector. One of the most significant themes is the changing demographics of the US. The 50+ population is expected to grow from around 122 million people today to nearly 160 million by 2060, representing approximately 41% of the total US population. That demographic shift will have profound implications for healthcare systems, Social Security, caregiving, housing, consumer behavior and much more.

But one thing is certain: as the population ages, there is an increasing need to ensure that older adults can age in good health, with independence, mobility and a high quality of life. For everyone working in AgeTech, it makes the work we do feel more important than ever.

We’re excited to announce the launch of GaitBetter at Florida PACE Centers, Miami Jewish Care, with the program now available at two locations serving older adults in Miami and Pembroke Pines, Florida.

This new partnership brings GaitBetter’s innovative approach to mobility and fall prevention to the communities, providing participants with an engaging and personalized way to work on balance, walking, coordination, and cognitive skills. The launch marks another important milestone in GaitBetter’s growing presence across the United States and reflects Miami Jewish Care’s commitment to providing its members and residents with access to innovative programs that support healthy aging, independence, and quality of life.

Suzana Simoes, Director of Rehabilitation Services at Florida PACE Centers commented: "We have partnered with GaitBetter because we want to take gait rehabilitation to the next level. Dual-tasking is a major factor in falls among older adults, and because so many of the falls we see occur during gait, we know that walking safely requires more than simply improving strength and balance. GaitBetter allows us to integrate cognitive challenges into gait training while collecting meaningful data to measure outcomes and demonstrate progress. Just as importantly, it brings a fun, engaging element to therapy that keeps our patients motivated and involved. For us, GaitBetter, and the GaitActive Program, represents the intersection of evidence-based care, measurable outcomes, and patient engagement, and that is exactly the kind of therapy experience we want to provide.”

Hilik Harari, CEO of GaitBetter: “We’re delighted to bring GaitBetter, and the GaitActive Program, to Miami Jewish Care, and to expand access to innovative mobility and fall-prevention training across the South Florida community. Partnerships like this allow us to reach more older adults and help them stay active, confident, and independent for longer."

As our global population ages, the urgency of fall prevention has never been more critical. Falls are the leading cause of injury among seniors, often resulting in devastating consequences such as fractures, traumatic brain injuries, and a loss of independence. These incidents not only affect the physical health of seniors but also have significant emotional and financial repercussions. The fear of falling can lead to a reduction in physical activity, which in turn can decrease strength and mobility, creating a vicious cycle that increases the risk of future falls.

It's imperative that we prioritize preventive measures to mitigate these risks. Home modifications, such as installing grab bars, improving lighting, and reducing tripping hazards, can create safer living environments. Regular health check-ups can help identify and manage conditions that increase fall risk, such as vision impairments, medications that affect balance, and chronic diseases. Balance and strength training programs are also crucial. These can be tailored to individual needs and incorporated into daily routines, significantly improving stability and confidence.

Beyond the individual level, community and healthcare systems must take a proactive approach. Public health campaigns can raise awareness about fall risks and prevention strategies. Healthcare providers should integrate fall risk assessments into routine check-ups and offer resources and referrals for balance and strength training programs. Technology also plays a vital role; wearable devices that monitor gait and balance, smart home systems that alert caregivers to falls, and virtual reality (VR) training programs that simulate various walking environments can all contribute to reducing fall risks.

By fostering a comprehensive and proactive approach to fall prevention, we can significantly reduce the incidence of falls and their associated consequences. This not only improves the quality of life for our seniors but also alleviates the emotional and financial burdens on families and healthcare systems. Let's collaborate to create safer environments and empower our elderly to live with confidence and dignity.

It might have been raining, but we were delighted that GaitBetter's Gladstone was able to attend the pre-Summit baseball at National's Park on Sunday. This was a 'warm-up' for the AARP ATC AgeTech Summit 2026 in Washington DC.

Thanks to AARP Programs for the special invite, and for ensuring that the Washington Nationals ended their season on a high, beating the NY Mets!

(and great to hang out with Howard )

More to come on the Summit itself over the coming days...

This Falls Prevention Awareness Week, take a moment to think...

Want to make an older person feel old?

Tell them:

“Be careful.”

“Don't do that.”

“Sit down.”

“You might fall.”

“You're too old for that.”

Want to help them stay independent?

Try:

“How can we make that safer?”

There’s a huge difference.

Falls prevention shouldn't mean shrinking someone's world.

It should mean finding ways to keep their world big.

That distinction matters.

Especially during Falls Prevention Awareness Week.

09/22/2026

The clue is in the title:

National Falls Prevention Awareness Week 2026, which is happening right now!

Prevention.

Not treatment.

Prevention.

Early intervention, and proactive prevention strategies can significantly reduce an individual's risk of falling, by up to 70%.

Increased neuroplasticity enhances the brain's natural ability to reorganize, change, and adapt its structure and connections throughout life, allowing us to perform multiple tasks in a safer and more confident manner.

Training with GaitBetter's dual-tasking approach increases brain plasticity, resulting in proven risk of falls.
