Patients ask about the name often enough that it deserves a proper answer. PREP stands for Pain Relief Enhanced Performance, and the order matters, because the practice was built around two goals rather than one.

Most people come in for pain relief. Something hurts, and they want it to stop. Enhanced performance is the part that tends to keep them coming back, which is the work of getting a body functioning better than it was before anything started hurting. That might mean getting through a workday comfortably, returning to a sport, or picking up a child without thinking about it first.

You don't have to be in pain to benefit from conservative therapy. Healing Hands PREP works with people on both sides of that name.

Sciatica has a pattern most people recognize before they know the name for it, which is a pain that begins in the low back or hip and travels down the leg, sometimes with numbness or a burning sensation along the way.

Because that pain follows a nerve, treating only the sore spot often isn't enough. At Healing Hands PREP, we usually address sciatica from more than one angle in the same visit. Dry needling can help release the muscle tension contributing to the compression, chiropractic adjustments address the joint mechanics behind it, and hands-on soft tissue work supports the area while things settle down.

We won't promise you a timeline. What we can do is take the time to find what's driving your symptoms and treat that instead of the symptom alone.

If your only reference point for chiropractic care is a brief adjustment and little else, a visit to Healing Hands PREP goes well beyond that.

Depending on what brought you in, one appointment might combine an adjustment, hands-on massage work, dry needling, and physical therapy techniques, in whatever mix the problem calls for.

We prioritize quality of care over the number of patients, so you don't feel rushed and leave wondering whether we addressed the underlying issue. It's simply a different way to practice, and it's why Dr. Hirschman built Healing Hands PREP the way she did. If that's the kind of care you've been looking for, we'd love to see you.

Now that the Montgomery County school year is back underway, mornings tend to be quieter, and the calendar usually has a little more room. That's often when parents finally get around to the appointment they've been putting off since the summer.

Looking after your own back, neck, or shoulders isn't an indulgence, though it tends to be the first thing that gets postponed. Chiropractic care and massage therapy at Healing Hands PREP can help get a household back on a steadier rhythm, because keeping up with everyone else's schedule is harder when you're moving through the day in pain.

If that appointment has been on your list for months, this is a good time to take it off.

We want your visit to start on time and without stress, so before your first appointment at Healing Hands PREP, here's what to know about getting to our office at 9200 Corporate Blvd, Suite 330, in Rockville:

When you enter the building, take the elevator to the third floor. When you exit the elevator, turn left and follow the hallway (past the restrooms) to the end of the hall.

Handicapped parking: Parking is on first floor. Enter past the stairs, make a left and follow the hallway down to find the elevator, which is across from the kitchen on the first floor. Take the elevator to the third floor, then turn left and follow down to the end of the hallway.

New and returning patients both tend to appreciate knowing this ahead of time, and if anything is still unclear once you're in the building, we're happy to help you find your way.
