Skincare Myth: Oily Skin Doesn't Need Moisturizer
Think oily skin and moisturizer don't mix?
Think again.
When oily skin becomes dehydrated, your skin may actually produce more oil as it tries to compensate.
The trick isn't skipping moisturizer — it's choosing the right one.
Look for lightweight, non-comedogenic (less likely to clog pores) formulas that provide hydration without feeling heavy.
And remember: skin type can change over time, so the routine that worked five years ago may not be the right routine today.

Your Skin Can Tell You When Something Isn't Right
Persistent itching.
A rash that won't go away.
A sore that doesn't heal.
A mole that changes.
A patch that keeps coming back.
Your skin has ways of getting your attention.
Don't ignore changes simply because they're not painful.
Sometimes the most important reason to see a dermatologist is simply “Something looks different.”
Trust your instincts. If you're concerned about a change in your skin, schedule an evaluation.

Sunscreen Isn't Just for Summer
If you're putting away your sunscreen because summer is over, think again. ☀️
UV exposure happens year-round — even when the temperatures drop and the sky is cloudy.
Daily sunscreen can help protect your skin from cumulative sun damage and premature signs of aging.
And yes, that includes days when you're:
🍂 Running errands
🚶 Walking the dog
☕ Sitting outside
🚗 Driving around town
Your future skin will thank you.

Your Skin Doesn't Need 12 Steps
More products don't necessarily mean better skin.
In fact, a complicated routine can sometimes lead to irritation, dryness or breakouts.
A good basic routine can be surprisingly simple:
🫧 Cleanse
🧴 Moisturize
☀️ Protect with sunscreen
Then add targeted products based on your specific skin concerns — ideally with guidance from a dermatology professional.
Your skin doesn't need a bathroom cabinet full of products.
It needs the right products for you.

Today is an opportunity to recognize and honor the history, cultures, traditions and contributions of Indigenous peoples.
It’s also a reminder of the importance of listening to different perspectives, learning from the past and appreciating the many experiences and traditions that shape our communities.
At Roswell Skin Center, we’re grateful to care for a diverse community of patients, families and neighbors.
Different backgrounds. Different stories. One community. ❤️

October 12 is observed as Columbus Day, while many communities also recognize Indigenous Peoples’ Day. At Roswell Skin Center, we believe in taking time to recognize the diversity of the people we care for — because healthy skin doesn't look exactly the same on everyone. Different skin tones, types, textures and concerns can require different approaches to prevention and treatment. Good dermatologic care starts with understanding the individual behind the skin.

Not Every Dark Spot Is “Just Aging”
Noticing a new dark spot? You're not necessarily looking at something serious — but you also shouldn't automatically assume it's harmless.
Changes in pigmentation can have many causes, including sun exposure, hormonal changes, inflammation and aging.
The important thing is knowing your skin well enough to notice when something changes.
If you have a new, changing or concerning spot, get it checked.
When it comes to your skin, it's better to have questions answered than to spend months wondering.

Fall Is Here — Is Your Skin Ready?
Cooler temperatures and lower humidity can be a welcome change after summer.
Your skin may disagree. 🍂
Fall weather can leave skin feeling:
• Dry
• Tight
• Flaky
• Itchy
• More sensitive than usual
As the seasons change, your skin-care routine may need to change with them.
Consider switching to a gentler cleanser, adding a richer moisturizer and continuing your daily sunscreen.
And remember: SPF doesn't have a fall expiration date. ☀️

National Eczema Awareness Month
Eczema isn't simply “sensitive skin.”
For people living with eczema, itching, dryness, irritation and flare-ups can affect everything from sleep to daily activities.
And sometimes the products you think are helping may actually be making things worse.
A few skin-friendly basics:
🫧 Choose gentle, fragrance-free cleansers.
🧴 Moisturize regularly — especially after bathing.
🚿 Avoid very hot showers.
👕 Pay attention to fabrics and products that trigger irritation.
🩺 And if your eczema is persistent or difficult to control, talk with a dermatologist.
You shouldn't have to plan your life around your skin.

October Is Skin Care Awareness Month
October is the perfect time to take a closer look at your skin — not just how it looks, but how healthy it actually is.
Healthy skin starts with the basics:
🧴 Daily sunscreen
💧 Consistent hydration
🫧 Gentle cleansing
👀 Paying attention to changes
🩺 Getting concerning spots or symptoms checked
Your skin is your body's largest organ, and it deserves more than an occasional “checkup” when something goes wrong.
This month, make skin health part of your routine — not just your beauty routine.
