After an unfortunate encounter involving an ATV and a barbed-wire gate, I arrived in the Emergency Department with significant lacerations to my neck and hands and, understandably, a great deal of concern about the extent of my injuries. From the moment I arrived, Val and her team provided exceptional care. What impressed me most was their ability to create an environment that was both calm and appropriately urgent. They immediately put me at ease by explaining every step of my care, what they were doing, why they were doing it, and what they were looking for as they assessed my injuries. Their communication, professionalism, and compassion significantly reduced my anxiety during a very frightening experience. Having spent 20 years in healthcare leadership, I have seen firsthand what good care looks like and what great care looks like. This team exceeded even those expectations. The level of clinical expertise, thoroughness, and attention to detail was outstanding. They took the time to ensure not only that my visible injuries were treated appropriately, but also that no underlying issues or additional injuries had been overlooked. Beyond their clinical skills, the team was highly engaged, personable, and genuinely compassionate. They handled the situation with professionalism while also demonstrating a sense of humanity that helped make a difficult experience much easier to navigate. They even tolerated, and occasionally matched, my attempts at humor and sarcasm as I tried to downplay the situation, which helped put me at ease. The care I received was truly exceptional. Val and her team exemplified everything a patient hopes for in an emergency situation: expertise, teamwork, clear communication, compassion, and professionalism. I am deeply grateful for the outstanding care they provided and would consider the experience nothing short of superb.
