Being cleared by rehab is an important milestone, but returning to dance requires more than simply recovering from an injury.

Dance demands a unique combination of strength, control, stability, endurance, and coordination that may not be fully addressed during general rehabilitation.

At Performance Health & Rehab, we help dancers bridge the gap between rehabilitation and the demands of their sport through individualized, dance-specific rehabilitation and performance training.

Our goal is to help you build the strength and confidence to return to the studio prepared for everything dance demands.

Ready to take the next step in your recovery? We’re here to help!

Recently we had the opportunity to work with the dancers at The Ballet Studio on “How to Build a Personalized Warm-Up for Dance Longevity.”
We focused on creating warm-ups that are individualized to the dancer, not just following the same routine every time. A well-designed warm-up can help dancers prepare their bodies for the demands of class, improve movement quality, and support longevity so they can continue dancing for years to come.
Thank you to The Ballet Studio for having us! We loved working with your adult dancers and sharing ways to make their warm-ups more intentional.

You’re an artist. But your body has to perform like an athlete.
Dance may look effortless, but the physical demands are anything but.
A single ballet class can involve 2–3× the number of jumps of an entire basketball game. Dancers can experience landing forces of up to 9.6× their body weight, while allegro work can push heart rates to roughly 85–92% of maximum.
That’s not just artistry. That’s athletic performance.
If we expect dancers to jump, land, turn, accelerate, decelerate, balance, and perform at a high level, their training needs to prepare them for those demands.
Train for strength. Train for power. Train for control. Train for endurance. Train for longevity.
Because if you perform like an athlete, you should train like one.

More flexibility isn't always better.
Oversplits can push dancers beyond their normal range of motion and place unnecessary stress on the joints. When a stretch goes beyond the muscle's available length, that stress can be transferred to surrounding connective tissues, tendons, ligaments, and the joint itself.
For young dancers, this is especially important because their bodies are still developing.
Flexibility training should focus on lengthening the muscles while building the strength and control needed to support that range. A dancer being able to get further into a position doesn't necessarily mean they have the strength or control to safely use that range.
At Performance Health & Rehab, we want dancers to develop flexibility, strength, and control together so they can use their range without unnecessarily stressing their joints.
Don't just chase more range. Build range your body can control.

More isn't always better when it comes to strength training.
As an athlete, you’re constantly managing stress from training, rehearsals, competitions, school, work, and everyday life. If every strength session is pushed to maximum intensity without enough recovery, fatigue can build up and eventually affect performance, movement quality, sleep, and your ability to handle training.
That’s why a deload week can be an important part of a well-designed training program. A deload is a planned period where you temporarily reduce your training intensity and/or volume while focusing on recovery, technique, and movement quality.
This might look like:
• Using lighter weights
• Doing fewer sets or reps
• Focusing on technique and control
• Incorporating more mobility or lower-intensity movement
• Adjusting training based on how your body is responding
A good strength coach doesn't just tell you how hard to train, they help you determine when to push, when to maintain, and when your body needs to recover.
The goal isn't to avoid hard training. It's to manage your training so you can recover, adapt, and continue progressing without constantly running yourself into the ground.
Sometimes the smartest thing you can do for your performance is take a step back so you can move forward.

Your body deserves more than a quick fix.
At Performance Health & Rehab, our approach starts with understanding you, your goals, your sport, your lifestyle, and what you want to get back to doing.
Whether you're recovering from an injury, dealing with recurring pain, preparing for the demands of your sport, or looking to build a stronger and more resilient body, your care shouldn't be one-size-fits-all.
We take the time to assess what your body needs and create an individualized plan designed around your goals. From rehabilitation and strength training to mobility, performance training, and recovery-focused care, we help you build the capacity to do more of what you love.
Because your goals are important, and your care should reflect that.
