Todays tip:
✨Why the Flu Vaccine is so Important✨

Flu shots are strongly recommended for children as a safe and effective way to strengthen their immune defenses. The vaccination will prepare their bodies to respond when they encounter a cough, cold, or flu illness.

Not only would you be protecting yourself, you are also protecting others around you. If you are around infants, pregnant mothers, or someone who is immunocompromised, you want to make sure you can't transfer an illness to them.

We are able to give the flu vaccine to any of our patients over the age of 6 months. Now is the perfect time to get them scheduled.
Having them done later in the season is also fine, but its better to get protected as soon as you can.

MYTH: You will get the flu from getting the flu shot. This is simply just not true. The flu viruses in the shot are not active, and cannot become active.

If you have any questions, or would like to set up a flu vaccine for your child, give us a call at 989-793-1202.

Should your child get a flu shot? Kids six months and older, caregivers, and anyone close to little ones should get theirs as it is the best way to protect your family.

✨Preventing the Flu✨

Obviously, its not possible to completely prevent the flu from entering your house at some point, but here are some tips to help try reducing the risk:

The single best way to reduce the risk of the seasonal flu is to get vaccinated. We are able to provide a flu shot to any children over the age of 6 months. Its not always perfect, and they may still get the flu, but with the vaccine it can reduce the severity of it.

These tips may seem repetitive from our last post, but it really is the best way to help avoid getting sick:

• Avoid close contact
• Stay home when you're sick - we know this isn't always possible, but the best thing to do is stay home until you are fever/symptom free for 24 hours.
• Cover your mouth and nose
• Clean your hands
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth
• Take steps for cleaner air
• Practice good hygiene

Tuesday Tips! 🥳

✨Ear Infections✨

A lot of kiddos are prone to ear infections. What causes them, and how can we prevent them?

👂Ear infections are caused by a bacterium or virus that infects fluid that builds up in the middle ear. They are often a direct result of a common cold, allergy, or other upper respiratory illness.

If your child is tugging/pulling on their ear, has a fever, isn't sleeping well, or has ear pain when laying down, these could all be signs of an ear infection.

So how do we try to prevent this from happening?
• Try to prevent colds and other illnesses. I know, easier said then done, but those will lead to the ear infections. Teach them to wash their hands often, cough or sneeze into their arm. If they are sick, keep them home from school/daycare.
• Talk to your doctor about vaccinations, such as the flu vaccine. This can also help prevent illnesses that could cause an ear infection.

As always, give us a call if you are worried your child might have an ear infection, we are here to help!

An ear infection (acute otitis media) is most often a bacterial or viral infection that affects the middle ear, the air-filled space behind the eardrum that contains the tiny vibrating bones of the ear. Children are more likely than adults to get ear infections. Ear infections frequently are painful...
