Have an MTHFR variant? Don’t make assumptions about folic acid just yet. 🧐
MTHFR affects an enzyme involved in how the body processes folate, which is why folic acid, methylfolate, and genetics often come up in the same conversation.
My first recommendation is simple: know your status before making changes. 🧬
If you do have an MTHFR variant, it may be worth looking more closely at where folic acid is coming from, including supplements and enriched foods, and discussing whether methylfolate is a better fit for you.
I also encourage looking beyond folate alone. Nutrients like riboflavin, or Vitamin B2, and nutrient-dense foods can also play an important role in supporting these pathways.
The bigger picture? Genetics are only one piece of the puzzle. Nutrition, nutrient status, and how your body processes them matter too. 🧩
Always discuss supplement changes with a qualified healthcare professional, especially if you are pregnant or trying to conceive.
