As astrologers, we are used to working with clients as they face life’s difficulties. This class will bring you another set of tools to work with loss in general, and specifically death. Delineating the tools of working with death charts followed by using charts of class members, we will study your natal chart for clues hinting of the loss, study the death chart of someone you loved --all with a focus on how to bring understanding, meaning, and perspective to your loss.

Hello everyone,

Fall has arrived in the northern hemisphere as the Sun goes into Libra on September 23, 2026. Once again, we are at one of the cardinal turning points of the year, a time of change, and the point when day and night are equal. On September 24, we enter the time when nights grow longer, and here in Minnesota the days grow colder.

The equinox chart and the full moon chart are just three days apart, with the full moon falling on September 26, 2026. A full moon in Libra focuses on finding time for the needs of the self in relation to the needs of others. How do we take care of ourselves and the people we love? Libra is symbolized by the “scales of justice” so this question goes even deeper asking us how we might care for the needs of society, bring justice to those who are marginalized and oppressed, while maintaining our own equilibrium? A big question, and an important one.

This is a very “Neptunian” full moon, with Neptune symbolizing water, oceans, floods, dreams, the mystical and the transpersonal. Neptune is conjunct the moon, our inner lives, our nighttime lives, and opposed the Sun, our conscious identity, and daytime experiences. Neptune when it works well, brings attunement, transcendence, and connection to the divine, and when it doesn’t, it’s a master at creating illusions, confusion, and deception. I imagine the time around this full moon to be uplifting, polarizing, and hard to grasp. Taking some time to be in nature, listen to serene music, meditate and center, can help with the Neptune fog. Communication looks particularly volatile during this full moon, with Mercury, communication, square Mars, fighting, and opposed Chiron, potential wounding. Be thoughtful with your words.

To keep things interesting, Venus the ruler of Libra, goes retrograde on October 3 (through November 14) in the signs of Scorpio and Libra. This suggests that we will be reminded of unresolved issues from our past, both in personal relationships and collective ones. And with Venus transiting Scorpio, and making a square to Pluto, long resisted and deeply buried feelings can surface in order to be healed.

On September 10th we will experience a new moon at 18 degrees of Virgo. This is a very harmonious new moon, with the ruler of the luminaries, Mercury, making a trine to both Uranus and Pluto, while making a sextile to Neptune. This creates a “kite” pattern in the heavens, activating the fire and air signs, known for creative inspiration, innovative thinking, and integrating intuition with intellect. This next week is an excellent time for connecting your creative ideas with action.

Also, on September 11th we celebrate Rosh Hashana, the Jewish New Year of 5787. This begins ten sacred days of inner journeys to review, understand, and resolve the past year, to make amends where needed, and to pray for a clean slate or be “written in the book of life” for another year. As we approach the fall equinox, I love immersing myself in these ancient rituals, prayers, and melodies of my ancestors. If you wish to celebrate, dip a slice of apple in honey, and let the taste attract sweetness for the coming year.

On a more personal note, I just returned from Chicago, IL and the 10th UAC, the United Astrology Conference. Approximately 1500 national and international astrologers and students of astrology gathered for five or more days of lectures, panels, conversations, parties and more. I saw attendees from Canada, Mexico, Australia, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Germany, Italy, Turkey, China, and even South Africa. For many of us it was the first time we met in person, although we’d connected on Zoom. It was an exhilarating experience to be in a hotel overrun with so many people wearing their UAC badges and exchange greetings, laughter and kindness. Everywhere I went I saw excitement, enthusiasm, curiosity, and generosity. Organizers had been working for two years to make this event happen and it was excellent.

On August 28, 2026, we begin to emerge from the eclipse portal, the two weeks between a Solar and Lunar eclipse; and these few weeks have been intense! Before discussing this very Uranian lunar eclipse on August 28, I want to comment on something that recently happened in the larger astrological community.

About three weeks ago a leader in our community, Steven Forrest, an Evolutionary Astrologer who has published 13 astrology books and graduated over 700 students during his almost five decades practicing astrology said a harmful racial slur on a podcast. He was confronted about it and issued a defensive non-apology focusing on himself. He made a few other choices that made the situation worse and brought to light some deeply embedded racism in our community.

This to me was a manifestation of the Solar Eclipse activating the Pluto in Leo generation, hitting everyone born between September of 1947 through October of 1953: A sliver of the Boomer Generation. Eclipses shine light on the shadow, and Pluto represents the underworld. This cosmic event offered us the opportunity to own our white privilege and confront our internalized racism. I continue to hold onto hope that this will happen. In the almost 50 years I have been part of the larger astrological community I have seen gradual inclusivity for the voices of women, and LGBTQ+ folks. Now it’s time to listen to BIPOC astrologers. I want to say to those of you know me, that I am fully committed to working to create inclusion and equity in my astrology practice and community.

The August 28, the full moon includes the Sun in Virgo conjunct Mercury, analytical and detailed communication, opposed the dreamy intuitive Pisces Moon while all of them square Uranus in Gemini, unexpected perceptions. For the two days leading up to and following this full Moon, you can expect wild and crazy mishaps and misunderstandings. Technology may act in unpredictable ways, and the eclipse will bring things to light regarding how to balance idealism with realism, work and play, and how to use our understanding to communicate in new creative ways.
