If s*x hurts, I want you to know you can get help for it.

Pain with pe*******on, pain afterward, or not being able to tolerate pe*******on at all are things people often carry for years before they tell anyone. Many have been told it's in their head, or to have a glass of w**e and relax.

Your pain is real, and there's usually more than one thing feeding it: muscles that have learned to guard, a nervous system on high alert, and sometimes the fear that it's going to hurt again.

We can work on all of it together.
Your first visit is about getting to know you and helping you understand what's happening. Nothing happens without your okay.

Thank you to the client who left this review.

“After seeing many GI doctors and being prescribed medication after medication, Sarah has been the biggest help in getting to the root of my concerns.

She is incredibly welcoming, respectful, and creates such a comfortable environment. She is thorough, truly listens, and takes the time to understand the underlying cause rather than simply treating the symptoms. I really appreciate that she focuses not only on helping you feel better now, but also on finding ways to prevent and manage the issues going forward.

If you’re looking for a pelvic floor therapist, I highly recommend Sarah! She is wonderful at what she does and genuinely cares about her patients.”

When someone comes to see me, my goal is to help them understand their own body well enough that they don’t need me forever. Every session is a full hour with me, start to finish, so there’s time to listen, explain, and answer every question.

If you’ve been dealing with something on your own for a while, I’d love to hear what’s going on. Free 15-minute call, link in bio.

Hi, I’m Sarah 👋

I’m a pelvic floor PT and owner of Sakura Pelvic Health on Grand Avenue in St. Paul.

Before opening Sakura, I mentored residents at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, taught workshops internationally, and trained nursing staff at a fistula hospital in Eritrea.

Every visit here is a full hour, one-on-one with me. I see adults and kids for leaking, pain, prolapse, pregnancy and postpartum, and bowel concerns. All bodies are welcome.

Follow for what I wish everyone knew about their pelvic floor, or book a free 15-minute call through the link in bio.

Your C-section scar can affect your whole core and pelvic floor.
A client came in recently, two years after her C-section, with a pulling feeling low in her belly when she stood up or lifted her toddler. She'd mentioned it at her six-week check, and no one had looked at her scar since.
A C-section goes through several layers of tissue. As those layers heal, they can stick together and stop gliding the way they used to. That can show up as pulling, numbness, sensitivity around the scar, low back pain, or changes in how your bladder and pelvic floor work.
Scar work is gentle. We start with your own hands on your belly around the scar, and we work closer to it as it feels comfortable. Now she is able to do all the things with her toddler without the tugging!
It's never too late to work on a scar, whether your C-section was six months ago or sixteen years ago.
Send this to a friend who had a C-section.

Tailbone pain can make every car ride, meeting, and dinner out miserable. Sharp pain at the tailbone or sit bones when you sit, or when you stand up from sitting, is something I help with often. It can start after a fall, after giving birth, or with no clear reason at all. Your tailbone is attached to your pelvic floor muscles, so when those muscles are tight or guarding, they can pull on it and keep it irritated. We look at how you sit, how those muscles are working, and what your hips and back are doing. Gentle hands-on treatment, including internal work when it's helpful and you're comfortable with it, can bring a lot of relief. You shouldn't have to sit on one hip for the rest of your life. Share this with someone who needs it.

If you’ve felt heaviness or a bulge down there, you may have been told it’s just part of having kids or getting older. Prolapse doesn’t have to keep getting worse. A lot of what pushes it along is pressure: how we breathe, how we lift, and how much we strain on the toilet. Those are all things we can work on together. Last week I talked about pessaries, which can be a big help for some people. They’re one piece of the plan. When I work with someone with prolapse, we start with the foundations in this post and then build strength step by step, at the pace your body is ready for. Most people come in once a week for about 6 to 8 weeks, and they leave knowing how to manage it on their own. Save this so you have it when you need it. And if you want to talk it through, book a free 15-minute call. Link in bio.

If you’ve been doing everything right and you’re still constipated, let’s look at your pelvic floor.
To have a bowel movement, the muscles of your pelvic floor need to relax and open. When you’re stressed, rushing, or bracing through your day, those muscles can stay clenched. Stool backs up, and that’s when the bloating, pressure, and pain show up.
Something that’s been really helping my constipation clients is learning to notice what their pelvic floor is doing on the toilet. Next time you go, take a nice big breath, let your belly soften, and see if you can feel those muscles let go. You don’t need to push hard. Just notice.
Your nervous system plays a big part here too. Digestion works best when your body feels calm and safe, and that’s hard to come by when you’re eating at your desk and racing to the next thing.
Save this and try noticing the next time you go.

On Tuesday I talked about running and leaking after baby, and how the connective tissue sometimes needs extra support. Today I want to talk about one of those options, and I’d like to challenge how you think about it.

A lot of people picture pessaries as something only older women use. A pessary is a small, removable device worn inside the va**na. It supports the pelvic organs and the connective tissue around them, and it can help with leaking, heaviness, or pressure at any age.

Pregnancy and va**nal delivery place big demands on that connective tissue. Researchers are now looking at whether using a pessary after va**nal delivery may help it recover. It’s still being studied, and it’s an exciting area to watch.

We think nothing of wearing an ankle brace after a sprain or a knee brace for a sport. A pessary comes from the same idea: a device that supports your connective tissue while you heal and get back to what you love.

I fit clients for pessaries, and I love helping people find one that feels right for their body. If you’re curious whether one could help you, DM me PESSARY or book a free 15-minute call. Link in bio.

If you’ve been curious about pessaries, it helps to know there’s more than one kind.

Over-the-counter pessaries can be ordered directly online. They’re often sold as va**nal toners, but many people find they help with leaking, heaviness, or prolapse. Medical-grade pessaries are fitted by a trained provider, come in more sizes, and are the more traditional way to manage those symptoms. With either one, you can put it in and take it out yourself.

They also work in different ways. Some are supportive. They sit inside and hold things up, a lot like a tampon. Others are space-filling and use suction to stay in place, similar to a menstrual cup.

Finding your best fit often means trying a few options. That’s one of the things I love about fitting pessaries in pelvic floor PT. In the clinic, you can try a pessary while doing the things that bring on your symptoms, like lifting weights, jumping, or running, so you can feel right away whether it’s helping. And because I see clients regularly, we can adjust over a few weeks. Urogynecologists do wonderful work, and their schedules are often so full that the same process can take months.

A pessary that fits well shouldn’t hurt, and most people forget it’s there. Save this so you have it when you need it, and reach out if you’d like help finding yours.
