We asked our patients what blood flow restriction (BFR) feels like.

BFR uses a cuff on the arm or leg to partially limit blood flow while you lift light weights. Your muscles fatigue fast and respond as if the load were much heavier, building strength without heavy stress on healing joints or tissue.

Every running stride is a single-leg landing. If your hips can’t hold steady, your pelvis and knee drift side to side, and that extra motion adds stress to the knee with every step.

Stable hips do more than protect your knees. They help you produce force and run more efficiently, so less energy leaks out with each stride. Single-leg strength work is one of the most direct ways to build that control.

Most athletes love to train. Far fewer put the same effort into recovery, and that’s usually where progress stalls, in rehab and in the gym.

Five habits do most of the work:

-Sleep 7–9 hours
-Eat enough protein, carbs, and total calories
-Build in rest days and progress gradually
-Stay hydrated (coffee doesn’t count)
-Keep moving on easy days with walking and mobility work

Swipe through for the details.

Elbow pain doesn’t always start at the elbow. Your shoulder muscles control where your arm sits when you throw, swing, serve, or lift. When they can’t keep up, the elbow absorbs force it isn’t built to handle, and its tendons and ligaments take the stress.

That’s why treating only the sore spot often doesn’t last. Building shoulder strength and control takes load off the elbow at the source.

IASTM, or instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization, uses specialized tools to treat muscles, tendons, ligaments, and fascia. People often say it “breaks up scar tissue.” That isn’t really what it does.

It’s good at reducing pain, easing muscle tightness, and improving how the tissue moves. That gives you a short window where movement feels easier. The exercises that come right after are what turn that window into lasting change.

When a volleyball player's back hurts every time they arch to hit or serve, complete rest is rarely the answer. Isometrics are often where we start.

An isometric is a hold: the muscle works, but the joint doesn't move. Superman holds, bridge holds, and bird dog holds load the back and hips at a level most athletes tolerate, often with less pain than repeated movement through range.

Load first. Then movement. Then the jump.

A good warm-up has three parts, and it doesn't need to take more than 10–15 minutes.

First, raise your body temperature with a walk, bike, row, or jump rope. Aim for a light sweat, not fatigue.

Second, move the joints you're about to load: hips, ankles, and spine before lower body days, thoracic spine and shoulders before upper body days.

Third, activate your stabilizers, then ramp into your first lift with lighter sets.

HYROX Tampa starts October 22. That's less than three weeks away.

If your shoulder hurts on wall balls, the SkiErg, or the sled pull right now, waiting it out is the riskiest option. Three weeks is enough time to calm the shoulder down and adjust your training. It isn't enough time to wait and hope.

Swipe through for five ways to manage shoulder pain while you train, then get it evaluated this week.
