100 years of changing our minds.
1900s — Lard
Grandma fried everything and feared nothing.
1920s — Shortening
Processed everything. Called it progress.
1950s — Butter
Buttered everything. Including the butter.
1970s — Margarine
Dumped butter. Trusted plastic.
1980s–90s — Low-fat
Removed fat. Sugar moved in.
2000s — Olive oil
Stopped pouring. Started “drizzling.”
2010s — Coconut oil
Pan. Hair. Face. Body. Send help.
2020s — Avocado oil
Healthy fat. Unhealthy price.
2024 — Butter again
Butter was innocent. Our bad.
2026 — Tallow & lard
Grandma grease returned with a $30 price tag.
Today:
Eat fat. Fear fat. Love fat. Repeat.
Nutrition advice has commitment issues.

The plant fights back. Every stem, leaf, and root carries a chemical arsenal it evolved to stop things eating it. Celery burns you. Rhubarb leaves poison you. Kidney beans undercooked send you to hospital. Almonds carry cyanide. Cassava has to be soaked for three days or it kills you. Kale is stuffed with oxalate. Grapefruit interferes with half the pharmacy.

None of this is a secret. It's in every plant biology textbook. The plant didn't evolve to feed you. It evolved to survive, and its defences work.

Then the wellness industry took the most defended plants, juiced them, and told you to drink a pint before breakfast.

The cow ate the plant so you didn't have to.

This great breakdown of all of the amino acids provided def in the protein we eat.

Amino acids are often called the building blocks of protein. But each one also has its own biochemical roles, from neurotransmitter synthesis and methylation to collagen formation, redox balance, nitric oxide production, and cellular signaling.

I created this Amino Acid Alphabet to pair those established biological functions with a more reflective layer of symbolism.

What might grounding, flow, resilience, clarity, restoration, or vitality look like in your own life?

The first bullet under each amino acid reflects established or well-supported physiology. The symbolic associations and affirmations are contemplative interpretations, not established physiological functions.

Sometimes science tells us what a molecule does. Symbolism invites us to ask what that function might help us notice about ourselves. 🦋💙

“Efforts to reduce sodium intake in entire populations cannot be justified.” (Mente, O’Donnell, Yusuf, 2021) A paper published recently in the journal Nutrients raises important questions about the safety and utility of recommendations for entire population groups to consume low-sodium diets. ...

Our nutrition guidelines have reduced protein recommendations over the past 20 years, despite overwhelming evidence that protein supports satiety, immune function, weight stability, and metabolic health.

Today, school meals often rely on incomplete, plant-based proteins that lack key amino acids.

We’re not feeding kids enough of what actually keeps them well. We need more complete protein. Not less.

I'm #2 on the "mis-influencer" list of experts due to my popular posts challenging the nutrient-deficient "Planetary Health Diet" promoted by "EAT-Lancet", which caps red meat at 1.5 oz/day and allocates a majority of calories to grains.

This is an anti-human diet.

It promotes ill health and lacks the basic nutrients needed to sustain human life and promote healthy reproduction.

Apparently, cancel culture is alive and well with EAT Lancet, which evidently aims to vilify people talking about the health benefits of red meat (nutrient density, low-calorie complete protein).

A term like "misinformation" now tend to have a boomerang effect--as it did with school lockdowns--only making people want to know more about this "dangerous" information.

A recent clinical trial on the EAT-Lancet diet found that after 12 weeks, participants on this diet saw significant declines in Vitamins A (‒25%), B1 (‒11%), B2 (‒16%), B3 (‒16%), calcium (‒16%), zinc (‒13%), potassium (‒10%), selenium (‒15%), and iodine (‒26%), vitamins B6 (‒12%), vitamin B12 (‒36%), vitamin C (‒23%), vitamin D (‒28%) and vitamin K1 (30%).

Does a nutrient-deficient diet sound like it's good for health?
