For month I chose to feature the waking brain waves Theta, Alpha, Beta, and Gamma over my solarthermal which changes from green to orange to purple.
I've been learning about how these waves are generated as your brain transfers between different states that help you get through different parts of your day. Theta, the daydream state, is essential for memory storage and emotion processing. Alpha, calm relaxation, provides creative inspiration and emotional regulation. Beta, the focused alert state, keeps you focused and productive. And Gamma, the highest energy state, provides intense focus and insight for those rare stream of consciousness events.
For many people with executive dysfunction, staying in the state your body needs for the current situation can be challenging. My spouse who has ADHD type symptoms, spends a lot of effort trying to stay engaged at work, probably slipping out of the Beta he desperately needs and into an Alpha state that deprives him of focus. I'm on the other side as a hypervigilant person, spending most of my time in a Beta state of worry and rumination, and unable to get into Alpha and Theta so my brain can rest and perform much needed maintenance. I'm hopeful that as I learn more about these states, I can help my brain shift down into the lower energy states I need, and maybe help my spouse learn to shift upwards.
Thanks to everyone who participated in this collab, and especially my cohost π·πΈπ§ππ£πͺ πππͺπ©π· π§‘
