During National Disability Employment Awareness Month, employers can proactively advertise job openings to candidates with disabilities. Strategies include outreach through American Job Centers, state vocational rehabilitation agencies, employment networks under the Ticket to Work program, independent living centers, and U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs regional offices. Disability student services offices at educational institutions, nonprofits, and social service agencies may also be of assistance.

Here in Utah we have Vocational Rehabilitation that can help you. To access Utah’s Vocational Rehabilitation Offices you can visit them on their website at https://jobs.utah.gov/usor/vr/index.html

Employment is an important part of community inclusion for people with disabilities. Competitive, integrated employment (CIE) – working in the community, alongside people with and without disabilities, at competitive wages – offers a direct pathway to greater independence and self-sufficiency for people with disabilities. Employers can also benefit by having a larger and more diverse talent pool when hiring. This year’s theme for National Disability Employment Awareness Month is celebrating value and talent.

Throughout this month the Utah Developmental Disabilities Council will be posting about National Disability Employment Awareness Month.

To kick off NDEAM we invite you to check out our Ready and Able page to learn more about tools for job seekers and employers. If you would like to visit this page please visit: https://uddc.utah.gov/ready-and-able/
