When words won't come, space, breath, and permission to just be still and make something might be just what you need.

Today is World Mental Health Day, and this year's theme is Lived Experiences Heard: Real Voices, Real Change. One thing we know is that we need each other, and that includes really hearing each other. Connection is healing. Community is healing. Creativity is healing.

We don't have all the answers, but we do have those things, and our hope is that all of humankind will someday have them, too.

The internet loves to say "as a [insert string of credentials and experience here], here are my thoughts on this" because it's supposed to make you trust the person talking, so here goes: As an outpatient mental health treatment center that specializes in embodied experiential, action, and expressive therapy, we think it's important to spend some time today (and tomorrow, and the tomorrow after that!) connecting, making, building, creating, resisting, dancing, dreaming, meditating, crying, talking, writing, hugging...

Whatever you need to do to feel a little more grounded and in touch with yourself and your people. Including your furry, winged, crawly, and swimming people, of course.

Our fall semester interns started on August 24th, and by August 31st, they'd completed 8 hours of training specific to documentation. That's more training specific to documentation than most clinicians receive all through internship and licensure and beyond.

Many of us in this field weren't taught, and now a lot of us are pretty afraid when it comes to documentation. Hating it doesn't help. We think of documentation as an intervention, as opposed to a clerical nightmare, and just like any other intervention, it requires training and practice that most of us didn't get if we came up in outpatient care.

When someone on our team asked whether we should offer something outside of Hearten House, our founder, Aimee Hadfield, gave a pretty hard no, because this year has already been a full one. But the more she thought about it, the more it felt important to share, especially since documentation is such a hot and scary topic for so many clinicians right now.

When she asked what people wanted it to cover, one of the requests that came up most was help not hating documentation. So we took those eight hours and put them together in a way that gives you exactly what folks asked for.

Where We're Going: Shifting Our Relationship with Clinical Documentation is two live sessions on Zoom, taught as a pair by Aimee. The first is what documentation is actually for, what belongs in the record and what doesn't, how to keep records on paper and on a screen, and how to recognize and document when someone needs more than you can offer. The second follows the golden thread from what someone says at intake all the way to the progress note, and you'll write during it.
What would change for you if your notes told you where to go next?

Each session is 2 CE hours, including 1 ethics hour. Take both for 4 CE hours, including 2 ethics hours.

Pick whichever pair works, the content is the same: Mon 9/21 + Tue 9/22, 5:30 to 7:30pm MT Wed 10/21 + Thu 10/22, 10am to noon MT Sat 11/7, 11 to 1 and 2 to 4 MT

$95 for both sessions, $60 for one. If cost is a barrier, reach out before you talk yourself out of it.

What is psychodrama, and what is it like to experience it as a participant?

Our friends Meb and Dr. Scott at Phoenix Center for Experiential Trauma Therapy made a video that demonstrates it better than we could ever explain it.

Behavioral / Health Professionals: This is just for you.

If you're lighting the way for others, and searching for the way yourself, come spend five days with us in Santa Fe this fall re-connecting with your light so you can burn bright, not out.

We still have some space available: this is open to professionals across behavioral and medical fields, and there are CE credits available for mental health clinicians as a free gift after the experience.

You know that feeling when you start making something with no plan, half not paying attention, and a little while later you're looking at a page that shows the exact thing you've been carrying around all week and couldn't name? That's because sometimes the knowing shows up in your hands before it ever makes it into words.

That knowing is the whole idea behind Intuitive Art Club. Two hours, every other Wednesday, where you make something without deciding ahead of time what it's supposed to mean, and then you get to find out. You don't need any artistic experience, and there's nothing here to be good at; nobody's grading what you make. You just have to be curious enough to show up and see what comes out.

Syd Sneddon facilitates, and she's a therapist, so she knows how to hold a room while people make honest things. It's a club, so there's no intake and no commitment; just drop in when you can. The next one is Wednesday, July 29, and it's $20 a session, in-person at Hearten House in downtown Salt Lake City.

If some part of you has been trying to get your attention lately, this is a low-stakes place to let it talk.

We're talking about that small, stubborn thing in you that lights up around what you actually care about, even when it might not make sense to everyone else.

It's easy to let it get crowded out by everyone else's needs and the next thing on the list, until you almost forget it's in there.

It's worth guarding because it's the part of you that absolutely knows which direction is yours.

Self-care and networking are both on most behavioral / health providers' "need to do more of" lists, but by the end of the day, you just want to lay down and turn off. Come do both, and check "eat real food" off your list while you're at it.

Your life doesn't have to feel like a burnout meme just because you chose a career where you're helping people.

Thursday's multitasking list looks like
- Sound healing
- Food
- Creativity
- Connection

Bring yourself and any marketing materials to share, Ieave some of the weight you've been carrying on your shoulders, and take new and stronger relationships home with you.

We'll lay on the floor and turn the noise down together.

UPDATE: This training has sold out. We didn't expect that, and we are honored and grateful! There is a waitlist forming, and you can join it at the registration link. We are actively considering the feasibility of expanding capacity and/or presenting it again in the fall.

You've probably been in the middle of a session, supervision, a team meeting, or a family event when something happens that touches a part of you, and you react. Even though you know what it is, where it came from, and might even have a name for it, none of those things slowed it down. And naming it after the fact doesn't change what happened.

That's the gap this training lives in.

Bring It to Life is a four-day training intensive co-facilitated by Aimee Hadfield with Haydn Briggs from the Philadelphia Area Psychodrama Institute this June in Salt Lake City. It brings IFS and psychodrama together as one integrated practice, with leadership as the through-line.

Psychodrama gives your parts a body, a voice that doesn't have to be translated, and a room where they can meet the roles they were formed in response to. Because your avoidant part didn't develop in isolation. It developed in response to something, someone, or a system that needed something from you that you learned to provide, at a cost you're still paying. It preceded parts work, and it does something language alone can't: it puts those roles in relationship with each other, in action, in real time.

If you've been using parts language in your work and keep bumping up against the edges of what naming alone can do, this is what comes next.

June 4–7, 2026 in Salt Lake City, with 21 CE and psychodrama training hours included. Early registration discount closes May 10.
