Physical therapy can play a life-changing role in recovery, mobility and long-term health. For many individuals living with injury, disability or neurotrauma, access to the right rehabilitation support can shape daily life, confidence and independence.

Research shows that early physical therapy can help reduce unnecessary emergency care, balance training can lower fall risk and many people still miss out on critical rehabilitation after serious injury.

At Warm Springs Foundation, we’re proud to support organizations that expand access to rehabilitation programs that promote strength, recovery and possibility for individuals living with disabilities and neurotrauma. πŸ’™

Physical therapy matters. Access matters. Please share to help keep empowerment flowing. ✨

At just 16, Mya Haywood sustained an anoxic brain injury that left her with significant physical and cognitive disabilities. After spending six months in the hospital, Mya and her family faced an uncertain road ahead.

With support from TEAMability, Inc., part of the Warm Springs Foundation Circle of Care, Mya has made meaningful progress in her strength, mobility and balance. Now 19, she continues to build confidence, reach new milestones and find more opportunities to communicate, connect and share her spunky, music-loving personality.

β€œShe is still Mya. There is so much more to her than her disability.” - Crystal Perez, Mya’s mother and primary caregiver

Alana Montes joined Warm Springs Foundation in April 2026 with the goal of helping make meaningful work possible behind the scenes. πŸ’™

In her role as Senior Executive Assistant to the CEO and Board Liaison, Alana supports our CEO and Board of Directors while helping keep the many people, projects and priorities behind the Foundation’s work organized and moving forward.

Having personally experienced the impact of a life-altering medical event in her own family, Alana sees our mission as deeply meaningful. Fifteen years ago, her mother suffered a stroke and had to relearn how to walk, speak, eat and do many of the things most of us take for granted. That experience shaped the way Alana understands recovery, independence, family support and the importance of knowing where to turn when life changes without warning.

For Alana, this work is about more than meetings, schedules and projects. It’s about supporting a mission that helps people and families feel less alone, find resources sooner and see what may still be possible.

β€œI am excited about the Foundation’s continued reach and support. I know firsthand how important it is for families to know where to turn when their lives suddenly change.” – Alana Montes

National Physical Therapy Month is a time to recognize the dedicated physical therapists who help individuals build strength, restore movement and work toward greater independence. πŸ’™

Physical therapy plays an important role in rehabilitation, helping individuals improve mobility, manage pain, recover from injury and regain confidence in daily life. Through compassionate care, personalized support and strong community connections, physical therapists help create meaningful paths forward.

At Warm Springs Foundation, we are proud to support partners and programs that expand access to rehabilitation, critical resources and life-altering possibilities for individuals and families across our communities.

Collaboration creates stronger possibilities for the people and communities we serve. πŸ’™

Our team recently visited the South Texas Veterans Health Care System and had the opportunity to connect with Dr. Michelle Trbovich, a spinal cord injury clinician-scientist and professor of rehabilitation medicine at UT Health San Antonio. Her work focuses on improving care and outcomes for individuals living with spinal cord injuries.

It was especially meaningful to converse with Dr. Trbovich before she joined us as a speaker at our latest Community Collaboration Speaker Series event. Visits like this help us better understand the innovative research, rehabilitation and care happening throughout our community and the opportunities to create even greater impact together.

Innovation becomes even more powerful when it creates possibilities for others. πŸ’™

Our team recently visited the Walker Innovation Center at TMI Episcopal, a space where students use creativity, design thinking and hands-on technology to solve problems and turn ideas into meaningful impact.

During our visit, we had the opportunity to meet Gracie, a TMI student who put that spirit of innovation into action by 3D printing a wheelchair that was provided to a client at TEAMability, one of our Circle of Care members.

Seeing a student-led idea become a real resource for someone in our community was an inspiring reminder of what can happen when creativity, compassion and technology come together.

Daniel Murata joined Warm Springs Foundation in 2025 with a simple goal: share meaningful stories that connect people to our mission. πŸ’™

In his role as Digital Content Specialist, Daniel leads multimedia strategy and content development, helping shape the organization’s voice through storytelling, brand messaging and purposeful communication.

Having built his career around helping people feel connected to a larger purpose, Daniel sees our mission as an opportunity to use his creativity to elevate real stories and help more people understand the impact behind life-altering possibilities. For Daniel, storytelling is about more than creating content. It’s about listening, finding meaning and helping others see the heart behind the work.
