Why I always start at the neck 👇🏻
Your lymphatic system is your body’s cleanup crew. It moves excess fluid, carries waste away from your tissues, and supports immune function. Unlike your blood, it has no pump. It relies on movement, breath, and gentle pressure to keep things flowing.
When lymph gets sluggish, the face is often where you see it first: morning puffiness, under-eye bags, dullness, a softer jawline, that tired, heavy look.
Here’s the part most people miss: facial drainage only works if the exit is open. Lymph from your face drains down through the neck and empties near the collarbones. If the neck is congested, sweeping fluid out of the face has nowhere to go. That’s why I clear the neck and collarbone area first, then work upward.
Gua sha does this beautifully. Light, slow strokes (lymph sits just under the skin, so no deep pressure needed) help move fluid along its natural pathways. You get less puffiness, more definition, and that fresh, lifted glow.
In TCM, we also see stagnation as something that shows up in the face, so supporting healthy flow is about more than looks. It’s about helping your whole system feel lighter.
