A photograph of something you pass every day, a few words in a notebook, or colors that capture how you feel can help you notice what you appreciate about your life. Giving that appreciation a creative form is at the heart of my 10 Day Creative Gratitude Practice. 🎨

I invite you to join me for this self-guided practice, with a daily prompt to bring you into closer connection with your senses and surroundings through words and images. You can take photos, write, sketch, or make a collage, using whatever materials you have on hand.

Keep it simple enough to fit into your day, and give yourself room to play when inspiration comes. You don’t need art experience to begin, just a willingness to pay attention and see what takes shape.

Start your 10 days here: https://art-cures.com/creativegratitudepractice/

I’d love to see what you create. Tag me and use to share something from your practice.

A creative crossroads can take many forms. You may be moving through a life transition that has changed what you want to express, feeling distant from the creative practices that once nourished you, or carrying an idea that you’re ready to bring into the world with support.

My Art Healing Incubator offers a space to work with what’s present in your life and give your creative voice room to emerge. In our 1:1 sessions, I combine creative coaching, expressive arts, movement, and somatic practices to help you listen to yourself, work through blocks, and find a sustainable rhythm for making art.

Our work might include giving shape to grief through writing or images, noticing what movement reveals, or finding practical next steps for a body of work. Together, we make room for your emotional experience while supporting the creative work you want to bring forward.

With sessions every other week, creative assignments, and email and text check-ins between sessions, you’ll have ongoing guidance and structure to support your practice.

I welcome artists, therapists, healers, educators, and creatives in recovery who want to reconnect with their artistic lives and deepen their work. To begin, complete my creative healing survey and tell me a little about where you are and what you’re hoping for. 🎨 https://art-cures.com/art-cures-individual-program/

This fall, I have a few openings for 1:1 Creative Coaching for artists and creatives who want more individualized support around their work, their creative practice, or a season of change.

Our work can focus on developing or completing a project, creating more structure and accountability, moving through creative blocks, reconnecting with your artistic voice, or finding a more grounded way to stay engaged with your creativity during a life transition.

I bring more than thirty years of experience as an artist, filmmaker, dancer, expressive arts therapist, educator, and mentor to this work, but the process is always shaped around you and what your creative life is asking for right now.

If you are looking for dedicated support, I would love to connect. 🎨

What happens when the thing that once gave you intensity, escape, or release is no longer an option?

It’s a question that sits underneath so much of The Creative High.

The artists in the film have each had to find their own answers. For some, it’s in movement. For others, music, photography, painting, performance, or the simple act of making something with their hands. Creativity doesn’t replace recovery, and the film doesn’t suggest that it does. What it can offer is another place to put all of that energy, emotion, longing, and need for expression.

That’s the territory I wanted The Creative High to look at.

Not simply how people stop using substances, but what they move toward. What makes a life feel full again? What gives us access to intensity without destroying ourselves? How can the creative process become part of building a life we want to stay present for?

The Creative High is currently airing on PBS stations around the country, with dates continuing into October.

If these questions speak to you, I hope you’ll watch.

The Creative High is continuing its PBS run, with airings scheduled around the country through mid-October.

There is something special about knowing that people are coming across this film in their own communities, perhaps for the first time, and meeting the nine artists who trusted us with their stories.

Their experiences with creativity and recovery are deeply individual, but the questions at the heart of the film reach beyond any one story. Where do we find connection and meaning? What helps us stay present in our lives? And what role can creativity play in that process?

I’m grateful that PBS is giving more people the opportunity to experience these stories.

There are still many upcoming airings. Visit the link below to find a PBS station and date near you: https://thecreativehigh.com/watch/

One of the most meaningful parts of making The Creative High was getting to know the artists in the film over time. Seeing their successes in art and life, as well as commiserating over challenges as artists and humans in recovery.

Tonight, we get to hear from some of them again, and be together in real time.

At 5pm PT / 8pm ET, we’ll gather online for a special Meet the Artists conversation as part of our PBS Celebration on Kinema. Several of the artists featured in The Creative High will join us to talk about their experiences, their creative practices, recovery, and where they are now.

I’m looking forward to being in conversation with them again and to sharing that conversation with all of you. You can join the Zoom event for FREE!

And, If you haven’t had a chance to see the film yet, you can stream the PBS cut of The Creative High through September 19th!

I hope you’ll join us tonight. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdk-FLHrXw_aliCKWyNe6UPlgW1ao_yCJE5T9b65gQzBi1TiA/viewform

Celebrating more moments of this Creative High film odyssey as our PBS broadcast is underway. Sharing pics from film festival tour - in San Francisco, Los Angeles and Denton, TX! And having an acrobatic moment with Associate Producer Travis Rowland.

Our award-winning film highlights nine inspiring stories of artists in recovery from addiction, through hip hop, visual art, punk and rock music, dance and drag theater. It took us 6 years to make the film!

If you want to see the PBS cut (56 min) check our website (the creative high dot com) for air dates, or watch through our week streaming window starting tomorrow, 9/12 on Kinema.

And DON’T MISS THE OUR ‘MEET THE ARTISTS’ EVENT ON ZOOM NEXT WEDS, SEPTEMBER 16 from 5-6PM PT / 8-9PM ET. (Free!)

Have you had a chance to catch The Creative High on PBS yet?

Throughout September, the film is airing on PBS stations across the country as part of National Recovery Month. I’ve been so appreciative of the responses we’ve received as new viewers encounter the film and the artists who so generously shared their stories with us.

If it hasn’t aired in your area yet, there are still many opportunities to watch.

And next week, we’re creating another way to experience the film together.

From September 12–19, the PBS cut of The Creative High will be available to stream worldwide through Kinema. On September 16th, we’ll also come together for a live virtual Meet the Artists event. I’m especially looking forward to this part. It’s an opportunity to hear directly from several of the artists in the film and continue some of the conversations that began during filming.

I hope to see some familiar faces there.
