Are you practicing in Texas, New Jersey, Oklahoma, Ohio, Washington or Arizona? If so, how can you earn a WISeR Gold Card?

Prior authorization doesn’t necessarily have to remain part of your WISeR workflow forever.
Since July 2026, qualifying providers can earn an automatic WISeR Gold Card exemption from prior authorization and pre-payment medical review for select Medicare services, including applicable skin substitute and CTP applications.

But there’s an important distinction: you don’t apply for the Gold Card. You earn it.
Providers must demonstrate consistent compliance with Medicare coverage, coding, payment, and documentation requirements. CMS establishes baseline requirements, including at least 10 applicable prior authorization requests and meeting the required affirmation-rate threshold, while individual WISeR Model Participants may have additional criteria.

And Gold Card status is tied to the individual provider NPI, not the entire practice.
Strong documentation isn’t just about getting approved today. It can help reduce administrative burden tomorrow, and help providers maintain their exemption once earned.

👉 Learn how WISeR Gold Carding works, what providers need to qualify, and how to build a documentation strategy designed to earn, and keep, the exemption:

During Peripheral Artery Disease Awareness Month, it’s worth looking beyond PAD itself to one of its serious wound-related consequences: arterial ulcers.

Effective management starts with recognizing compromised arterial flow, assessing healing potential, and aligning care with current evidence-based recommendations.

WoundReference brings together clinical guidelines and quality measures relevant to arterial ulcers and associated vascular conditions.

September is Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) Awareness Month - an important reminder that reduced blood flow can do more than cause leg pain. It can also contribute to arterial ulcers, which commonly affect the legs, feet, or toes.

Patient education matters. Recognizing symptoms may help patients seek care sooner.

WoundReference’s patient education resource explains what arterial ulcers are, what causes them, how they are treated, and when patients should contact their healthcare provider.

The 2027 CMS Proposed Physician Fee Schedule could bring important changes for wound care practices, from reimbursement for same-day E/M services and procedures to skin substitutes, remote monitoring, telehealth, fluorescence wound imaging, and MIPS.

Among the proposals, CMS is considering payment reductions when E/M services reported with modifier 25 occur on the same day as a procedure, standardized reimbursement for nonsheet skin substitutes, reimbursement for real-time fluorescence wound imaging, and further changes to remote monitoring and value-based care.

Note that these policies are proposed, and not final yet

The WISeR Model is changing how select Medicare services are reviewed, including certain skin substitute and CTP applications.

For affected providers, services may go through prior authorization or pre-payment medical review, with a strong focus on medical necessity, accurate coding, and complete documentation.
Understanding the process can help wound care teams prepare their workflows, reduce avoidable denials, and stay aligned with Medicare coverage requirements.

Modifier 25 remains a major compliance issue in wound care, especially when E/M services are billed on the same day as debridement or another procedure. Under the proposed 2027 Physician Fee Schedule, certain same-day E/M and procedure combinations could also face payment reductions.

The key remains the same: the E/M service must be significant, separately identifiable, and clearly documented beyond the work already included in the procedure.

Many hospital-acquired pressure injuries (HAPIs) are preventable, yet they continue to occur across healthcare systems.

What does it take to reach Zero Avoidable Stage 3–4 HAPIs?

One health system implemented a structured competency-based prevention program and achieved:

✔ 300+ nurses trained
✔ ~100% staff participation
✔ 25% improvement in knowledge scores
✔ Zero Avoidable Stage 3–4 HAPIs in the first year

Education, standardization, and the right tools can transform prevention into everyday clinical practice.
