Fibromyalgia affects an estimated 4 million U.S. adults, about 2% of the adult population, yet remains difficult to diagnose.

With diagnostic education, research information, and patient communities, The National Fibromyalgia Association is an excellent resource for people navigating this condition.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common form of arthritis, affecting more than 32.5 million U.S. adults. OA is a disease of the entire joint, involving bone, cartilage, ligaments, and the tissue lining the joint. Notably, OA is not only a condition of older age: more than half of people with symptomatic knee OA are under 65.

This is why we're grateful for organizations like the Arthritis Foundation and the Osteoarthritis Action Alliance, whose self-management programs, research updates, and local support networks make living with OA a little more navigable.

Back pain is the most commonly reported pain condition in the U.S. It is also a leading cause of disability worldwide. Among U.S. adults with chronic severe back pain, nearly three-quarters report limitations in mobility, work, or social participation.

Organizations like the U.S. Pain Foundation and the National Spine Health Foundation do important work supporting people navigating back pain, from patient education to advocacy, and are a great place to start for anyone looking for reliable information and community.

Pain may feel like it’s happening in your knee or your back, but did you know your brain is where pain is actually experienced?. When nerve endings detect an injury, signals travel through the spinal cord to the brain, which relays them to areas that process sensation, emotion, and attention. That’s why pain can affect mood, sleep, and focus. In chronic pain, these circuits can sometimes stay active even after an injury heals. Understanding these circuits is at the center of our research.

This September, we're recognizing Pain Awareness Month. Chronic pain often goes unseen by others. Awareness months exist to change that: to make conditions visible and remind people living with pain that they're not alone.

The U.S. Pain Foundation is recruiting volunteers to help secure official Pain Awareness Month proclamations from state and local governments. This is a meaningful way to raise visibility and show communities that people living with chronic pain matter. They'll provide templates and guidance throughout, so no experience is needed.

The One Mind Music Festival returns to Staglin Family Vineyard in Napa Valley: an afternoon of live music, Napa w**e, and conversations with leading voices in brain health. Every dollar raised goes toward advancing mental health research and care.

Attune was proud to be part of the One Mind Accelerator in 2025, and we've seen up close the impact this community has on mental health research.

If you're in the Bay Area this September, it's well worth checking out.

If you’ve had chronic musculoskeletal pain for over three months and live in the San Francisco Bay Area, we invite you to participate in our research study.

This study tests if an investigational non-invasive wearable headset using low-intensity focused ultrasound reduces chronic pain. No drugs, needles, or surgeries involved. All participants receive active investigational treatment, there are no sham or placebo groups.

Additional eligibility criteria apply. Participation is voluntary and may or may not alleviate pain. Risks and benefits will be explained during screening. You may be compensated up to $1,350.

Chronic pain isn't always something people can see.

Two years ago, Attune Co-Founder and CTO Keith Murphy, PhD, and colleagues published research showing that focused ultrasound can precisely and non-invasively reach deep brain circuits. This incredibly relevant and important finding is the science our work is built on.
