Activating your posture is a very different idea than fixing your posture. Do you agree? 💫

✨I know this sounds rather strange coming from someone who teaches posture for a living.

But do you know how exhausting it is to constantly remind yourself to sit up straight, pull shoulders back, relax the neck, or stop slouching? 🤯

Is it sustainable?

Absolutely not.

And what happens when you get busy, or forget to monitor yourself? Old habits are right back, knocking on your door.

All of this is normal.

And I want you to know that nothing is wrong with you or your body when you slouch, collapse, or tense up and feel stiff.

Because your body does exactly what it’s supposed to do: responding.✨

It responds to your emotions, upbringing, values and ideas; and even to the furniture you use every day.✨

Its job is to keep you safe and your head above your shoulders… a task it has been performing since we all first walked the Earth.

Your body knows how to “do” posture.

But it doesn’t mean every posture is harmless. It means your posture is an adaptive response and not a moral or intellectual failure.🥹

Here’s an idea:

If you try to see posture as a verb rather than a noun, how does your understanding change?

In my world, posturing is a behavior. It’s not “a thing”. And behavior we can change.

What if you started to pay a little more attention to how your body responds in everyday life?

From the chairs 💺🪑 you sit on and the way you reach with your arms, to the thoughts and emotions you experience around certain people or situations?

Posture goes way beyond right and wrong.

We all “posture” in response to what’s happening in our lives. But when you understand your body’s habits, and how they may be contributing to the stress, tension or pain you feel you can begin to change and create more ease for yourself.

Then your posture improves all by itself.

✨☀️That’s what I’m here to help you with.✨

👌 Understand your body’s habits, reduce unnecessary effort, and discover more ease in your everyday life.💕

Fancy a little self-exploration?✨

Here is an invitation: Gently touch all around the middle of your body. Can you find the natural space between your rib cage and pelvis - about a hands-width wide?

Notice that when you sit in a slouch, that space, your “waist” (not an anatomical term) gets compressed and your abdomen pushed out.

This makes your belly look and feel larger than it really is! 😭 On top of it, sitting slouched does negatively affect your breathing, digestion, mobility and mood. 🤯

So try this:

Be mindful of sitting upright as you balance on your sit bones. What you’ll gain is much more than a little vanity 😅💕

Spacious lungs, free breath, a happy spine, enhanced sensory awareness and connectivity throughout your body that feels good.

Is this a new discovery for you? Let me know below.💙
