Do you think we have free will, or is everything predetermined?

Music is a surprisingly deterministic system. There are rules, structures, and patterns you have to follow. And yet, within those rules, there’s room for endless creativity.

Maybe life is similar. Perhaps our choices are not as free as we think. Maybe even the feeling of choosing is part of a design we cannot fully see.

But if everything follows a set of rules, where does creativity come from?

And more importantly, where does free will begin?

What do you think? 🎹

I don’t believe female empowerment means becoming aggressive, cruel or emotionally unavailable. I believe it means developing enough strength that your kindness becomes a choice, not a survival strategy.

We’ve been taught to be kind. Be understanding. Be the bigger person. Don’t react. Don’t make a scene.

But why should I stay silent when someone tries to diminish me? Why should I confuse my inability to defend myself with kindness?

There is a fundamental difference between being harmless and being peaceful. If you cannot stand up for yourself, your silence isn’t necessarily peace. Sometimes it’s fear.

And I don’t believe you can fully respect yourself until you’ve grown some teeth.

Being capable of fighting back, but choosing not to, is very different from being incapable of fighting at all. The first is a conscious choice. The second is a limitation.

Interestingly, the more capable you become of defending yourself, the less you may need to.

Be soft. But have teeth.

I was writing my new song “whatever it takes” today, and suddenly I thought about a line from my “Maria Magdalena” song.

“You can’t rewrite my story.”

It’s strange how songwriting works…Sometimes you write something because it feels true in that moment. And then life moves, things happen, things don’t happen, people have their opinions, you question yourself and somehow you find yourself back inside the words you wrote months ago.

Maria Magdalena was about refusing to let other people define your story.

Whatever it takes is about something slightly different: refusing to abandon your own story just because the outside world isn’t confirming it yet.

And suddenly I realised they’re connected. Maybe that’s what faith is too. Not insisting that life has to unfold exactly the way you imagined. But not allowing disappointment, other people’s opinions, or one chapter that didn’t go the way you wanted to rewrite the meaning of the whole story.

Things come full circle. Sometimes I think I’m writing the songs. Sometimes I think the songs are writing me.
