Today, we celebrate Juneteenth (also known as Freedom Day)—a day commemorating the emancipation of the last remaining enslaved African Americans in the U.S., which took place in Galveston, TX in 1865, more than two years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. As we honor this day, we celebrate freedom and recognize that we must all continue to work together to build a country and a world where everyone is treated equitably. #Juneteenth

Wild West in Wisconsin 🤠 🐴 Our associates at Howard Young Medical Center recently enjoyed a themed retail day featuring cowboy Ron and stablehands Mary and Linda. There's nothing quite like moseying on over to the canteen and lassoing up a signature Cowboy Club Sandwich after a long day in the saddle. Yipee-ki-yay!

It's guac o'clock! 🥑 ⏰ May's #SuperfoodOfTheMonth is everyone's favorite: avocados! Not only is this food super versatile—tasting great with and in everything from toast, chips, salads, burgers, and smoothies to chocolate desserts like cupcakes and brownies—but the avocado is also packed with key nutrients and healthy benefits.

Did you know? Avocados are fruits! These pitted tree-growing pods are considered berries and they pack more potassium than a banana. Avo good day and enjoy an avocado!

Meet Neil Bhatnagar! Neil is a second generation Indian American, born and raised in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago. Neil's mother and father migrated to America from India to provide a better opportunity for their future family (Neil and his brother). His father arrived with barely any money in his pocket, but followed his entrepreneurial spirit by selling women's clothing, eventually traveling all over the United States selling to major department stores, boutiques, and starting multiple businesses. Inspired by father's business ventures and his mother's passion for cooking, Neil developed a strong drive and work ethic which translated into a career in the food industry.

Neil graduated from Northern Illinois University with a degree in Hospitality Administration. His passion for team development, food and service has been evident from the start. He has had his hands in all areas of the hospitality business which include hotels, restaurants, conference center, casino, and entertainment venues. Neil started his career with health care as the Food Service Director for Morrison Healthcare at Kaiser Permanente in Santa Clara, California for over two years and made it a wellness and retail hub. He was also the retail marketing, e-finance, and wellness champion for the region. With the support of awesome mentors within Morrison, he was promoted to System Director for Kaiser Permanente which he was accountable for food service operations at over 20 different hospitals/medical centers in Northern and Southern California. Most recently, he is the Regional Director of Operations for TouchPoint Support Services for AMITA Health overseeing the South Region in a purposeful role with developing and supporting impactful leaders. He currently resides in Glen, Ellyn with his wife Tori, and his two boys Dexton and Nash, with whom he loves to celebrate traditional Indian holidays like Holi (Festival of Colors) and Diwali (Festival of Lights). Neil's favorite Indian dish is Pani puri, a street snack in several regions of India, consisting of a round, hollow puri (fried crisp) and filled with a mixture of flavored water (pani), tamarind chutney, chili, chaat masala, potato, onion and chickpeas. #AAPIHeritageMonth #AAPIHeritageMonth2021 #AAPIHM21

Meet Chef Trang Weber! Trang started her Compass career with TouchPoint after an influential conversation with Aaron Brown, who she describes as being a great mentor, advocate, and motivator. She also credits her growth to many of the leaders within TouchPoint specifically Mike Madigan and Calvin Neal. Chef Trang served as Executive Chef, Director, System Chef, Corporate Executive Chef before her promotion to Senior Corporate Executive Chef about two years ago.

Trang came to America at the age of three in the midst of the Fall of Saigon. "My mom was a single parent raising me," Trang said. "I didn’t know the language so I had to learn before going to kindergarten and I also taught my mom English at home."

"I was tied to my mom's hip in the kitchen," Trang said, "so I learned how to cook at the age of four, held my first knife at the age of five and was making simple dinners at the age of seven. My mom isn't a trained chef, but she's one of the best cooks/chefs I've ever known. She inspired me and taught me the real love of food and what it means to cook for people."

Following an initial pursuit of a degree in Psychology, Trang decided to go to culinary school. There were concerns, however, from family about her working and surviving in a male-dominated culinary field.

"I took the worst jobs and hardest chef roles like French restaurants and the brigade system," Trang said, "which is very synchronized and the most challenging thing I've ever done. I knew that if I could make it there, I could work anywhere. ...I had to be stronger, faster, smarter to survive. It was a huge learning experience, and I enjoyed every minute of it."

"We do everything around food––celebrate, mourn, nurture our bodies, heal, etc. and the impact that it has on people's lives is huge," Trang said. "I love being creative with products and creating a wow factor experience for somebody. I went into healthcare to make an impact on people who had diminishing health. It gives me the satisfaction of making a difference in someone's life." #AAPIHeritageMonth #AAPIHM #AAPIHM2021
