So you’re terrified of needles? Good news: the needles are not what you think.
If you hate needles, you do not have to suddenly become brave. You’re allowed to be nervous, ask every question, and still decide whether acupuncture is right for you.
Acupuncture needles are sterile, single-use, and much thinner than blood-draw or vaccine needles. Roughly 10+ acupuncture needles can fit inside one standard hypodermic needle.
Most people feel little or nothing. Some feel a quick pinch, dull ache, tingling, warmth, or heaviness. Those sensations usually settle quickly.
If anything feels uncomfortable, say so. We adjust it, remove it, or stop. You can ask for fewer needles at any time. You are always in control.
There is no magic number of needles. Your plan is based on your symptoms, health history, and overall pattern, not a one-size-fits-all checklist. Needles typically stay in for 20–30 minutes while you rest. A first visit is usually consultation plus treatment.
There is usually no bleeding. Occasionally, there may be a tiny spot of blood or a small bruise. Serious adverse events are rare.
We screen before treatment for relevant conditions, including pregnancy, blood thinners, bleeding disorders, lymphedema, pacemakers when electrical stimulation is considered, medications, and supplements so we can create a safe, complementary plan. If you have fainted with needles before, tell us, and come fed and hydrated.
If time or cost is part of the hesitation, ask before booking. You deserve clear answers.
After 35+ years of clinical experience, we still think informed consent matters more than pretending you’re fearless. Visit midwestacu.com.
