Ever notice your ADHD meds just stop working some weeks?
Same dose. Same routine. But your focus is gone, you’re irritable, and you feel like you didn’t take anything at all.
You’re not imagining it.
Your stimulant works by boosting dopamine in the part of your brain that handles focus, planning, and follow-through. Estrogen supports that same dopamine system. When estrogen is up, it’s helping. When it drops, before your period or as it swings in perimenopause, your medication can lose its backup.
So many women get told they’re “building tolerance” or need a higher dose, when what’s actually changing is the hormones underneath.
This is why I look at your cycle and your hormones, not just your prescription. Your brain doesn’t work in isolation, and your treatment shouldn’t either.
