🧠 STRONGER HIPS = BETTER BALANCE & MORE CONFIDENT WALKING! 💪

If you live with MS, Parkinson’s, Lyme disease, or are recovering from a stroke or brain injury, hip strength and control can play an important role in how you stand, balance, and walk.

Your hips do more than power movement. They help control your pelvis and stabilize your body.

Here are 3 key areas to train:

✅ 1. LATERAL HIP STABILITY — OUTER HIP
Helps control side-to-side movement and keep your pelvis steady while standing and stepping.

✅ 2. MEDIAL HIP CONTROL — INNER HIP
Contributes to hip stability and coordinated movement as your body shifts from side to side.

✅ 3. HIP EXTENSION — GLUTE MAX
Helps power everyday movements like standing up, stepping forward, and walking.

🧠 THE KEY? TRAIN MORE THAN JUST YOUR GLUTES.

Combining hip stability, strength, and movement control may help you work toward:

✔️ Better balance and body control
✔️ More confidence during walking
✔️ Improved movement efficiency
✔️ Greater control during exercise

Spasticity and fatigue can have many causes, so hip training isn’t a guaranteed fix. But the right exercises, adapted to your abilities, can be an important part of your movement routine.

💥 Inside The MS Gym, we focus on brain-based movement training that meets you where you are and helps you work toward stronger, more controlled movement.

Train the stabilizers. Build the strength. Practice with control.

Your progress starts with the right movement for YOU. 💪🧠

🧠 CAN YOU TRAIN YOUR BALANCE IN JUST 30 SECONDS?

Better balance doesn’t always start with standing on one leg!

If you’re living with a neurological condition, you can start by practicing postural control and body awareness—even while seated. 🪑

This simple seated balance drill challenges your brain and body to work together.

🎯 3 REASONS TO TRY IT:

✅ POSTURAL CONTROL: Practice sitting taller and maintaining a stable position.

✅ BODY AWARENESS: Challenge your ability to recognize where your body is in space.

✅ BALANCE & COORDINATION: Practice control that supports your goals for standing and walking.

Remember: balance isn’t just about stronger legs. It also involves how your brain processes sensory information and coordinates movement.

⏱️ YOUR CHALLENGE: Watch the video and try it with me for 30 seconds!

Move at your own pace, stay within your comfort zone, and use a stable chair. If you need extra support, have someone nearby.

🧠 At The MS Gym, we train the BRAIN to train the BODY.

🧠 PARKINSON’S AFFECTING YOUR BALANCE? TRAIN MORE THAN JUST YOUR MUSCLES.

If you have Parkinson’s, you may notice:
➡️ A forward-leaning posture
➡️ Feeling unsteady when standing
➡️ Difficulty turning your head while balancing
➡️ Less confidence when walking

Balance is about more than muscle strength. Your brain integrates information from your eyes, inner ears, and body to help you stay upright and coordinate movement.

That’s why balance training should challenge coordination, posture, and sensory awareness—not just strength.

⚖️ TRY THIS BRAIN-BASED BALANCE DRILL
Watch the video for the full demonstration.

1️⃣ Stand in a comfortable, upright position with appropriate support nearby. Don’t force your hips forward or exaggerate your posture.

2️⃣ Fix your eyes on a stationary target.

3️⃣ If safe and comfortable, slowly turn your head left and right while keeping your eyes on the target.

4️⃣ Focus on smooth, controlled movement. Add a steady rhythm only if it feels comfortable.

🧠 WHAT ARE YOU PRACTICING?

✅ Head and eye coordination
✅ Postural awareness
✅ Controlled movement and timing
✅ Balance skills that support everyday activities

With consistent, appropriately tailored practice, balance exercises may help improve stability and confidence over time.

⚠️ SAFETY FIRST: Parkinson’s-related balance problems can have several causes. Practice near a stable support, and get guidance from a physical therapist if you’re at risk of falling. Stop if you feel dizzy or more unsteady. This drill isn’t appropriate for everyone.

💪 At The MS Gym, we believe in training the BRAIN to train the BODY.

🧠 NEED A QUICK WAY TO MANAGE STRESS? TRY THIS.

Stress doesn’t just affect your mind. It can also influence muscle tension, energy, concentration, and how your body moves.

When life feels overwhelming, taking a moment to slow down and breathe can help you reset. 💛

This simple exercise is designed to encourage relaxation and support your body’s natural stress response.

✨ POTENTIAL BENEFITS:

✅ Encourage a calmer state of mind
✅ Practice releasing unnecessary muscle tension
✅ Support focus and body awareness
✅ Create a moment to pause when stress builds

Remember: YOU DON’T HAVE TO PUSH HARDER. SOMETIMES, YOU NEED TO SLOW DOWN.

🧠 CAN YOUR BRAIN CONTROL TWO DIFFERENT MOVEMENTS AT ONCE?

Try opening one hand while closing the other. Sounds simple, right? 👀

But your brain has to coordinate two different movements at the same time without letting one interfere with the other.

And that kind of coordination matters in everyday life!

🚶 THINK ABOUT WALKING:

Your legs alternate, your arms move in coordination with your steps, and your trunk helps maintain stability.

Your brain has to coordinate all these movements together.

🎯 3 REASONS TO PRACTICE THIS DRILL:

✅ Challenge right-to-left coordination
✅ Practice independent movement control
✅ Build coordination skills for everyday movement

🔥 YOUR CHALLENGE:

Open one hand while closing the other. Then switch!

Can you keep both movements smooth and controlled? Which side feels harder? 👇

Remember: Start slowly. Focus on control before speed, and modify the movement to match your ability.

🧠 BACK PAIN WHEN YOU LEAN FORWARD? TRY A GENTLER APPROACH.

If bending forward triggers low back pain—especially when using a walker, rollator, or crutches—forcing the movement may not be the answer.

The goal? Practice comfortable movement gradually, without pushing through pain.

Try this gentle wall drill, if it’s appropriate for your mobility level.

👇 HERE’S HOW:

1️⃣ SET UP
Stand near a wall with your feet hip-width apart. Use a stable support if needed.

2️⃣ MOVE SLOWLY
Gently push your hips back and lean forward a small amount, keeping the movement comfortable.

3️⃣ PAUSE & BREATHE
Take 1–2 slow, relaxed breaths. Avoid holding your breath or forcing a deeper bend.

4️⃣ RETURN TO STANDING
Come back upright with control.

5️⃣ REPEAT WITHIN YOUR COMFORT ZONE
Try 3–5 repetitions if tolerated. Only increase the range when it feels manageable.

🧠 WHY START SMALL?

Gradual, comfortable movement can help you practice mobility, build confidence, and explore what your body can tolerate. Pain can have many causes, so this drill won’t be right for everyone—and it isn’t a guarantee of pain relief.

⚠️ SAFETY FIRST: If you use a walker or crutches, don’t attempt this unsupported or rely on a wall for balance. Get guidance from a physical therapist if you’re unsure how to modify it. Stop if pain increases or you develop new symptoms.

Remember: DON’T FORCE THE MOVEMENT. START SMALL. BUILD GRADUALLY.

🧠 CAN YOU MAKE A SMOOTH CIRCLE WITH YOUR ANKLE? 🦶

This simple movement can reveal how well you control your foot and ankle!

Ankle circles challenge your brain and body to coordinate movement, control different joint positions, and respond to sensory feedback.

🎯 3 REASONS TO PRACTICE:

✅ Work on ankle mobility and movement control
✅ Improve awareness of your foot and ankle position
✅ Practice foot control that supports balance and walking

🔥 YOUR CHALLENGE:

Try making slow, controlled circles with BOTH ankles.

👇 Which side feels harder to control—LEFT or RIGHT?

Don’t force the movement. Start with a comfortable range and focus on smooth, controlled motion. Every ankle moves differently, and the goal is to practice—not be perfect!

🧠 HOW FULL IS YOUR THREAT BUCKET?

Are you doing everything you can to manage your neurological symptoms, but still struggling?

It might be time to look beyond exercise.

Living with a neurological condition is challenging enough. Add everyday stress, and it can feel like you’re carrying too much at once. 💛

Think about your THREAT BUCKET. 🪣

What’s filling yours?

⚠️ Relationship stress
💰 Financial pressure
💼 Work demands
😴 Poor sleep
🥗 Nutrition and hydration challenges
📱 Social media overload
💭 Anxiety and emotional strain
🧠 The daily demands of managing your symptoms

When stressors pile up, they can affect sleep, energy, concentration, mood, and how you feel and function.

That can make it harder to stay consistent with movement and recovery.

SO, WHAT CAN YOU DO?

✅ Take inventory of what’s draining you.
✅ Identify what you can change—or make more manageable.
✅ Set boundaries where possible.
✅ Ask for support from someone you trust.
✅ Make time for rest, connection, and activities that help you recharge.

You don’t have to fix everything overnight. Start with ONE thing you can make a little easier.

🧠 Remember: stress management isn’t a cure for neurological symptoms, and you can’t control every factor affecting your condition. But supporting your overall well-being can help create better conditions for learning, movement, and daily life.

💛 STOP BLAMING YOURSELF. START GETTING CURIOUS.

Ask yourself today:

👇 WHAT’S FILLING YOUR BUCKET—and what’s ONE thing you can do to lighten the load?

At The MS Gym, we believe progress means supporting the whole person—not just training the muscles.

🧠 CAN YOU STRAIGHTEN YOUR KNEE AND CONTROL IT AT DIFFERENT POSITIONS?

Knee extension isn’t just about strong quads.

Your brain also needs to coordinate muscle activity, recognize where your knee is in space, and control the movement.

That’s why practicing knee extension with control—not just forcing your leg straight—matters! 💪

🎯 3 BENEFITS OF TRAINING KNEE CONTROL:

✅ Practice quadriceps activation
✅ Improve awareness of knee position
✅ Build control that supports standing and walking

The goal isn’t simply to straighten your leg.

🧠 IT’S ABOUT TEACHING YOUR BRAIN AND BODY TO WORK TOGETHER THROUGHOUT THE MOVEMENT.

Start with a range you can control, and build gradually.

At The MS Gym, we train the BRAIN to train the BODY.
