🌿 A little peek into prenatal visits with me…

Prenatal appointments are about more than listening to a heartbeat, measuring your growing belly, and checking off the boxes on our to-do list.

(Although, of course, those important things have their place, too!)

They’re also about getting to know you.

Your hopes for birth. Your questions about the changes happening in your body. The things you’re excited about, the things that feel a little scary, and even the questions you weren’t quite sure how to ask.

They’re about making space for the conversation that starts with, “This might be a silly question, but…”

Spoiler alert: it’s never a silly question. 🫶

I believe prenatal care should feel like a partnership. A place where you feel comfortable speaking up, exploring your options, and being an active part of the decisions surrounding your care.

And sometimes, that means taking a little extra time. Sitting with a question. Talking something through. Or simply listening.

Because you’re not just growing a baby. You’re growing into a new season of life, and you deserve thoughtful, attentive care along the way.

This is my very favorite part about midwifery care: the opportunity to build a relationship over time, so that when your birth day arrives we’ve already spent months getting to know one another, building trust, and preparing for the journey ahead.

And that relationship? It matters to me. A lot.

So bring your questions, your worries, your birth preferences, and your wonderfully human self. There’s room for all of it here.

🌿 What does slow living midwifery mean to me?

In a world that often asks us to move faster, do more, and keep up, I believe there is something deeply meaningful about slowing down.

Especially during the tender seasons of pregnancy, birth, and becoming a family.

To me, slow living midwifery means being fully present with the person in front of me. It means making room for the questions, honoring the quiet moments, listening without rushing to respond, and remembering that sometimes the most meaningful part of care is simply having the time to truly see someone.

It means understanding that pregnancy is more than a series of appointments, birth is more than a day on the calendar, and postpartum is more than the weeks that follow.

These are seasons of transformation. Seasons that deserve tenderness, patience, and thoughtful care.

My hope is that every family I walk alongside feels that they have room to breathe, space to ask, freedom to be heard, and someone beside them who truly cares about their experience.

Not rushed. Not overlooked. Not just another appointment.

But known, supported, and cared for as they are.

This is the heart of my practice. This is slow living midwifery. 🌿

I’m so glad you’re here.

🌿 You know how sometimes the thing that needs to happen, the thing that you know in your soul is the right move, is also the hardest thing? That’s what’s happening over here at Stay Awhile. Big change. It’s been really sad in a lot of ways and really beautiful and exciting in others. So, with all the mixed emotions in tow, I’m excited to announce that Stay Awhile Midwifery is now a solo midwife practice. Endlessly devoted to slow living, intentional, midwifery care.

Three years ago, when I was dreaming up Stay Awhile Midwifery there was always a second midwife in the plan, and it was always Kalli. She had already been my student for three years and I was beyond thrilled to have her be the second midwife at Stay Awhile. For three more years, we have served the most incredible clients together. Oh, the tales we could tell!! It has been an absolute joy working side-by-side with her! All the laughter and tears, endless amounts of coffee, witnessing the most incredible miracles, and probably even saving some lives. It’s hard to picture what things are going to be like without her at every birth but I do know in my heart that this is the path I’m meant to be on.

Kalli, i am forever grateful for you as my midwife partner and best friend. I cannot wait to see you continue to grow and thrive as a Midwife. I know you’re going to do incredible things. Like you always do. And of course, we fully plan on assisting each other from time to time and when return clients call us with their good news we will absolutely take those on together.

This change will not impact anybody that has already signed into care. Clients that book from this point on will book with us individually. If you’re not already following Kalli over at Breathe Birth Care, go do it. She’s got some exciting things coming up. Thank you, everyone, for all the love and support!!!! 🌿

Bookclub this month was extra special. We read “The Red Tent” and then had a beautiful 13th Rite womb ceremony. Birth stories and experiences were shared, incredible conversation about the book was had with many unique and important perspectives, and incredible connection was felt throughout the room.
What a gift it is to hold spaces for vulnerable and powerful connection such as this. What a gift it is to spend time with such incredible feminine energy.
This Bookclub started out as a dream we both had for those we serve and to build community and now it has become a dream that came true. If you are in our care currently or are a past client, come and join us for these beautiful gatherings. Whether you’re a reader or not, you’re wanted here. 🖤

When discussing health in pregnancy these are our favorite tips and tricks:
—You can continue working out how you were before pregnancy just be sure you are listening to your body while you do so! If you’re listening, you’ll know your limits. This mama pictured above was getting PRs well into her third trimester! But even if you’re not working out hard like this, movement is important & can prevent against so many things. Our favorite exercise suggestions are walks, swimming, & yoga. But whatever will get you moving your body is a win in our eyes!
—If you can primarily eat whole foods your body will most literally start talking to you & telling you what it needs. We wholeheartedly believe in intuitive eating but when you eat too much processed foods it blocks your body’s ability to eat intuitively.
—We are going to be pushing protein. Why? Well for one, it is the literally building your baby. But also, it can help prevent against a lot of the issues you want to avoid in pregnancy. Gestational diabetes, hypertension, pre-eclampsia, fetal growth restriction, preterm labor, polyhydramnios, anemia, & more. It is so important it’s one of the big things we encourage you to track, shooting for at least 80-100g/day! Complex carbs, fiber, & healthy fats are also hugely important so finding balance is key!
—Hydration is the next big thing we are going to push. Most of the time when clients text us, their ailments can be solved by hydrating! The goal is getting around 100oz/ day & way too many people aren’t getting anywhere near this! Ways to sneak fluids in include lemon water, electrolytes, teas, & broths. We promise you’ll feel a lot better with a little more hydration.
—Getting good sleep will literally change your life. Mental health can be hugely impacted by sleep, we see a big difference when parents can get at least one 4 hour sleep stretch every 24 hours. Prioritizing rest during pregnancy is a great way to prepare for postpartum as well as help your body feel the best it can. We have seen many experience prodromal labor as a direct result of them feeling exhausted. If you can nap, do it, otherwise prioritize an early bedtime and aim for 7-9 hours of sleep!

You know you were born breech when you can suck on your toes as easily as you can your fists! 😆💗
We had the most beautiful surprise frank breech birth last week and we couldn’t be more smitten. What an incredible thing it is to watch a mom make the decision to trust herself and to trust birth at 8cm. And we always love having our favorite breech provider join the team when she can.
Over and over we watched this mom as she trusted the process, trusted her intuition, and leaned into the release that birth asks for.
What a gift it is to witness strength and vulnerability coexist on a weekly basis.
