Does your polling place need to be accessible? YES!

People with disabilities have the right to vote at accessible polling places, and election officials are responsible for making sure that right is protected.

Under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), accessibility includes more than getting through the door. It means accessible parking, entrances, pathways, voting areas, and voting equipment, along with effective communication throughout the voting process.

Some polling places are located in older buildings that don't meet every current ADA architectural standard. But that doesn't mean accessibility is optional. Election officials must address barriers, which may involve temporary modifications or choosing another accessible location.

Georgia law specifically requires polling places to provide suitable access for voters with disabilities.

Every voter deserves the opportunity to cast their ballot privately, independently, and with the same access as other voters.

If you encounter an accessibility barrier at your polling place, contact your county elections office.

LIFE, Inc. promotes independent living and advances community change for everyone.
