Why do I care so much about “natural” stuff?
Well before I answer that, let me start off by saying I have not always been so into holistic health 🙈
When my husband and I were first married, I wasn’t big into cooking, and I didn't ever read ingredient labels. Our diet consisted mostly of Totinos pizzas, cereal, ramen, pastas and sweets, basically anything that sounded good and most often it was processed. I used to constantly struggle with tiredness, brain fog, bloating and stomach pain after eating, and just accepted it as my normal.
Fast forward to about 4-5 years ago (luckily I had picked up a FEW cooking skills by this point😂), and we were thinking it was time to start a family. I wanted to make sure I was preparing my body and nourishing it in all the right ways... but little did I know peeking into the “natural” world of health would change my life.
I stumbled upon a deep-dive podcast about metabolic health and ancestral eating… in one hour, my outlook on the things I was putting on and in my body was totally shifted. Things started to click into place and make sense... maybe this was why I wasn't feeling the best. I began to see how everything I was interconnected... It initiated a snowball effect of change.
I slowly started balancing my plate with protein, fat, and fiber through whole foods, eating things like sourdough and raw milk, began supporting my mineral balance, and swapping products around my home with non-toxic options like tallow face moisturizer. It wasn’t perfect, but it was a start.🫐🥖🥩🥛🧈
I began to notice a HUGE (and I mean HUUUUGE) change in my afore-mentioned symptoms... they became pretty much non-existent. I had way more energy, I didn't need coffee to get through my day, my mood was balanced, and the brain fog was lifted. I literally felt like an entirely different person and had so much more joy and spark to my step! ✨
Ever since, I’ve continued on that journey eating God given foods and swapping my products for a better alternative. When we ran out of something, I’d see if I could replace it with something more natural for a comparable price. Once I became pregnant with our first son, it wasn't just my body to take care of, it was mine plus someone else's. I went down some rabbit holes of research, trying my best to be mindful of what I put in and on my body, and my sweet kiddos too.
Then came the “wait… how much of this stuff can I just make myself”😂
When I was about 8 months postpartum I decided I was finally ready to tackle the intimidating game of sourdough.
Soon after that, I had an interest in creating my own beef tallow skincare, but knew it would be ridiculous to make a batch that yielded 20-30 jars and then keep them all for myself. I figured I might as well offer them to others too.
I also wanted to make my own magnesium spray for mineral balance, but again… why make 1 jar when you can make 20 and let everyone else around you reap the benefit?
I perfected and tweaked recipes, tested things out, and soon thereafter, Lady B Holistic Goods was born!
Lady, because in Old English it actually means “bread-kneader”, and B because my name is Brittli for those that don’t know.
So, to answer the original question: Why did I start living a more “natural” life?
Because over time I have realized God has given us all these natural tools to utilize for our benefit. And boy, are they actually effective. I feel so much better! When we say no to convenience foods or other products, we say yes to feeling the way we’re designed to feel, fully energized, taking care of our one body we’re given to steward in this life.
In our fast-paced world, we really have to force ourselves to slow down and “stop and smell the roses”. To take the time to read ingredient labels, enjoy the life in front of us, and care for our bodies to the best of our abilities. Instead of using something with chemicals or hormone disruptors that eventually catches up with us, finding things with natural ingredients that actually help us instead of harm us.
There is a way to watch for these things without being fearful, or letting the crunchy lifestyle become an idol. For some it gets that way quick!! I constantly try to check myself on that. But I personally have reaped the benefits of eating whole foods and using clean products, as much as I can, at least!
It brings me so much joy to create these natural yet effective products so those around me can reap the benefits too! Most people don’t realize how effective and nourishing herbs or minerals or tallow can be they are until they try it for themselves.
So if you’re here and you’ve read this entire long winded post, I hope you find one of these ancestral remedies to be valuable to you in some way. May it help you the way it has helped me!!
Thanks for being here!
