Sleep apnea isn’t always obvious. It can look like loud snoring, morning headaches, waking up repeatedly, or feeling exhausted even after a full night in bed.

During Sleep Apnea Awareness Week, we’re focusing on the signs that often get overlooked.

If you’re consistently tired despite getting enough sleep, don’t just assume you need more hours. Sleep apnea can interrupt your breathing and disrupt your sleep throughout the night without you fully realizing it.

Know the signs. Know your risk. Don’t ignore what your sleep is telling you.

We treat sleep like something to get to after the real work is done.

But while you sleep, your brain is processing memory and your body is repairing itself. That is the work.

If you're getting enough hours and still waking up exhausted, that's worth paying attention to.

AZ Sleep can help you find out what's actually getting in the way.

Sleep apnea is a nightly battle for air.

When your airway collapses, your brain force-wakes your body to reopen it, sometimes 20, 30, even 50 times an hour. You won't remember it. Your heart and brain will feel it the next day.

At night: heavy snoring, gasping, breathing pauses.

During the day: dry mouth, morning headaches, brain fog no amount of coffee fixes.

Home sleep testing makes this easier to catch than ever. Save this, share it with someone who needs it. πŸ§ πŸ’€

Pay attention if you or your partner notice:

Loud, frequent snoring
Pauses in breathing
Gasping or choking at night
Morning headaches or dry mouth
Waking up tired no matter how long you slept

These can be signs of Obstructive Sleep Apnea, not just a snoring habit.

Don't rely on snoring alone to rule it out. Talk to a sleep specialist.

New research says movement matters here too.

A 2026 trial found 12 weeks of exercise plus sleep-hygiene education cut AHI by 31% in older adults with moderate-to-severe OSA, without major changes in body weight.

Exercise may help beyond weight loss alone. It's not a replacement for treatment, but it can be part of the plan.

Raise your hand if your CPAP is basically a nightstand decoration. πŸ™‹

You tried. It just didn't stick, the mask, the noise, waking up more tangled than rested.

That's not a "you gave up" problem. That's a "wrong tool for you" problem.

There's a small oral device that does the same job. No straps, no hoses, no machine humming next to your head all night.

One important question: which one do you have?

Sleep apnea isn't always a blocked airway.

Obstructive (OSA): Throat muscles relax, airway narrows. Loud snoring, gasping, breathing pauses.

Central (CSA): The brain doesn't send consistent signals to breathe. Snoring may not even show up.

Complex: A mix of both, often found while treating OSA.

Symptoms overlap. You can't diagnose it from snoring alone. A proper sleep evaluation can.
