Men are often less likely to reach out for support after a loss, and the stigma around su***de can make asking for help even harder. So with his permission, I wanted to share Jorge's experience in his own words.
Jorge's sister died by su***de two years ago.
"Two years after my sister's passing, I look back and recognize how devastating the impact of her su***de truly was. For a long time, my mind simply could not function; the grief completely overwhelmed reason.
In that journey of rebuilding, the messages from Help Texts were a quiet yet vital lifeline. They arrived without noise, right when the sadness felt heaviest and explanations fell short, reminding me that someone was there thinking of me. Over time, I realized it was never about finding rational answers, but about feeling that silent, constant support. When the texts eventually stopped, it never felt like abandonment—it was a natural sign that it was time to step forward and carry on by myself.
Today, I feel immense gratitude and a deep desire to give back all the support I received. I want to thank you for your constant presence and support during such a difficult time. There are no words to fully express how much you truly meant to me."
Text-based support reaches men in meaningful ways. 💛
