Your mom pooch might not be just about your belly! 👀

If your belly sticks out, your lower back arches, and no amount of crunches seems to make a difference, your posture and deep core strength could be part of the picture!

Anterior pelvic tilt can make your belly appear more prominent, while weakness or poor coordination in your deep core muscles can make it harder to stabilize your pelvis and spine.

These 4 exercises help you reconnect with your deep core, build strength, and create better support for your pelvis and lower back.

✨ It’s not about sucking your belly in. It’s about learning how to engage the right muscles and finding strength from the inside out.

Is it mom pooch… or is your posture playing a role? 👀

If your belly protrudes, your buttocks stick out, and your lower back feels compressed, your pelvic alignment might be part of the picture!

Here’s something most people don’t realize 👇

Tight hip flexors and quadriceps can contribute to an anterior pelvic tilt, pulling the pelvis forward and increasing the curve in your lower back.

And when that happens, your belly can appear more prominent- even without a change in body fat.

✨ The good news? We can work with this!

Through targeted stretching, strengthening, and mindful alignment, we can begin to:

✅ Create length through the front of the hips and thighs
✅ Reduce excessive compression in the lower back
✅ Help the pelvis find a more neutral position
✅ Improve posture and potentially change how the belly looks

It’s not about sucking your belly in or doing endless crunches. It’s about understanding how your body works and giving it what it needs.

And remember, not every belly is caused by posture, but it’s worth exploring!

Your belly might not be the whole problem. 👇

The way you hold your pelvis can influence how your belly looks AND how your lower back feels.

When the pelvis tips forward and the lower back becomes compressed, simply pulling your belly in or tucking your tailbone isn’t necessarily the answer.

In Iyengar Yoga, we work with the relationship between the legs, pelvis, and spine to create length, stability, and freedom of movement.

Here I’m using a strap in three standing poses:
✨ Ardha Chandrasana (Half Moon)
✨ Trikonasana (Triangle)
✨Parsvottanasana (Side Flank)

The strap helps me explore traction through the outer hip and thigh, creating a sense of space between the pelvis and lower back.

And while this isn’t a magic fix for anterior pelvic tilt or a protruding belly, it can be a wonderful way to develop awareness of how your body is working.

Want to explore how your posture, pelvis, and core work together?

I created a 30-minute Iyengar Yoga practice specifically for women who want to better understand their posture, strengthen their core, and move with more awareness.
