I take a while to use the restroom. I remember my father getting annoyed (not upset) bc it would take me a while and he always thought I was just distracted or something. Same thing to this day. I’ve a host of friends that are neurodivergent…. 100% have bowel complexities.

Yes, individuals with neurodivergent conditions
—especially those on the Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or with ADHD-are significantly more likely to experience chronic gastrointestinal (Gl) issues like bloating, abdominal pain, constipation, and diarrhea compared to neurotypical individuals.

Several biological, sensory, and lifestyle factors explain this connection: ®
• The Gut-Brain Axis: The gut and nervous system are deeply connected. Because neurodivergent individuals often have highly sensitive and reactive nervous systems, everyday stress can physically manifest as unpredictable digestion or intestinal inflammation.

• Sensory and Interoceptive Differences: Many neurodivergent people experience
interoception differences, meaning it can be difficult for the brain to register early internal bodily cues like hunger, fullness, or the subtle beginnings of stomach pain. As a result, Gl distress may only be noticed once it becomes severe or causes physical discomfort.
