There is something you do every single day that is making you weaker. And with one small shift in how you think about it, it could be making you stronger instead.
Most of us have spent our entire adult lives getting better at efficiency. Fewer trips. Fewer steps. Smarter routes. Less effort to accomplish the same result. And for things like fuel, money, and time that is genuinely good thinking.
But when it comes to the body, efficiency is working against you.
After 50 the body needs more demand placed on it, not less.
More movement woven into the ordinary day. More opportunities taken instead of avoided. More stairs climbed, more distances walked, more trips made, more standing where sitting used to be the default. Every small physical demand you accept instead of engineers around is a deposit into the account that keeps you strong, capable, and independent.
This is the take the stairs philosophy. Not just literal stairs, though those count. But the consistent daily choice to take the option that requires a little more from the body whenever two options exist. Park a little further. Take the extra trip. Stand when the phone rings instead of staying in the chair.
These are not workouts. They are decisions. And made consistently across the entire day they add up to a body that is being regularly reminded it needs to be capable, and responds by staying exactly that.
The more you expect from your body the more capable it becomes. Start expecting more today.
