Before cutting more calories, adding another workout, or investing in the next weight loss supplement, take a closer look at your foundations.

💧 3 liters of mineral-rich water daily — Support hydration, digestion, and normal metabolic function.

😴 7–9 hours of quality sleep — Poor sleep can impact hunger hormones, insulin sensitivity, recovery, and appetite regulation.

🚶‍♀️ At least 7,000 steps per day — Daily movement supports energy expenditure, blood sugar regulation, and metabolic health.

🥗 Track your calories — Not necessarily to eat LESS, but to understand how much you’re actually eating. Are you consistently fueling your body appropriately for your goals?

🧘‍♀️ Manage your stress — Chronic stress can influence sleep, appetite, food choices, and recovery. Set boundaries, ask for help, and prioritize downtime.

Weight loss resistance isn’t always a sign that you need to do MORE.

Sometimes it’s a sign that you need to become more consistent with the things that matter most.

And if you’re already nailing these foundations and still aren’t seeing progress? That’s when it’s worth digging deeper into your nutrition, medications, hormones, and metabolic health.

Master the mundane before chasing the complicated.

Sometimes the best stress management tool is a healthy boundary. 🤍

We focus so much on nutrition, exercise, sleep, and supplements to manage stress, but often overlook the importance of protecting our peace.

Chronic stress can impact cortisol, digestion, blood sugar, sleep, and overall health.

Healthy boundaries mean:

✨ Saying no without guilt.

✨ Protecting your time and energy.

✨ Letting go of the need to please everyone.

✨ Choosing peace over unnecessary conflict.

✨ Asking for help and recognizing you don’t have to do everything yourself.

✨ Recognizing that not everything deserves your attention.

You can’t create a low-stress life while continually allowing high-stress situations to consume your energy.

Sometimes, the healthiest thing you can do is set a boundary, ask for help, and give yourself permission to rest. 🤍

If I wanted to be pregnant by 2028, here’s the testing I would consider ordering NOW. 🤍

Preparing for pregnancy starts long before that positive pregnancy test.

If I were planning to conceive within the next 1–2 years, I would take a proactive approach to optimizing my health, correcting nutrient deficiencies, and addressing underlying concerns BEFORE pregnancy.

Here’s where I would start:

🩸 1. Comprehensive Blood Chemistry

I would assess thyroid function, blood sugar regulation, iron status, nutrient levels, liver and kidney function, and other markers based on my personal health history.

Your body has increased nutritional and metabolic demands during pregnancy. Identifying deficiencies or imbalances beforehand gives you time to address them.

🌿 2. GI-MAP Stool Testing

Gut health can influence nutrient absorption, inflammation, immune function, and overall well-being.

And here’s something fascinating: A mother’s microbiome can influence her baby’s developing microbiome!

During pregnancy, birth, and breastfeeding, a mother’s microbiome helps shape her baby’s early microbial exposures, which play an important role in immune system development.

This is one more reason I would prioritize digestive health BEFORE conception.

Depending on my symptoms and history, I would consider evaluating digestive function, intestinal inflammation, and potential gastrointestinal infections or imbalances.

🔬 3. Additional Testing Based on Symptoms

This is where individualized care becomes so important.

Depending on symptoms, medical history, and initial results, I might investigate reproductive hormones, ovulatory function, metabolic health, autoimmune conditions, or other concerns that could affect fertility and pregnancy.

Here’s what I really want you to understand:

I would give myself at least ONE YEAR before trying to conceive to work through anything that testing might uncover.

Not because everyone needs a year to prepare, but because meaningful changes can take time.

Many of you have been undereating for so long that eating MORE feels completely backwards.

That’s exactly where my patient was. She wanted to lose weight, but at just 1,500 calories per day, cutting even lower wasn’t the answer.

Instead, we slowly increased her intake from 1,600 → 2,700 calories per day over 12 weeks—primarily by adding carbohydrates while keeping protein and fat consistent.

And the best part? She added over 1,000 calories per day without gaining a single pound.

This is one reason tracking your food can be such a valuable tool. It gives us objective information about how much you’re actually eating and allows us to make small, intentional adjustments based on how your body responds—instead of guessing.

Sometimes the first step toward fat loss isn’t eating less. It’s learning how much you can actually eat.

Progesterone typically peaks about 5–7 days after ovulation—often around cycle days 19–21 in a typical cycle. This is generally the best time to assess luteal-phase progesterone rather than relying on cycle day alone.

When looking at labs, I also like to look at the relationship between progesterone and estradiol rather than evaluating either hormone in isolation. A tool like the Omni Progesterone-to-Estrogen Ratio Calculator can be helpful for calculating this ratio. Simply plug your results into the calculator. You want a progesterone to estradiol ratio of 100-300. Less than 100 can be estrogen dominance.

Why Balance Oil and not Olive Oil?

For us it comes down to taste! This oil is light and neutral, not bitter and heavy like olive oil.

It’s also amazing for your cells! Here’s why 👇🏻

Your cell membranes are made largely from fats. Balance Oil provides the essential omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids your body uses to help build flexible, functional cell membranes—which are foundational for cellular communication and function.

Let me know if you try it!

Songs that your baby may have tension-
🛑 open mouth posture
🛑 clenched fists
🛑 preferring to look one way
🛑 trouble latching or painful feeding
🛑 dislikes tummy time or time in the car seat
🛑 banana or C shaped posture
🛑 red neck creases
🛑 reflux or heavy gas
🛑 trouble settling to sleep

As you can see this routine can be done about anywhere and doesn’t take much time! Your touch should be gentle. We’re not forcing anything. We’re creating more space.

I love doing this before tummy time, and after baths or diaper changes.

Bloating, especially above your belly button.
Burping.
Feeling overly full after meals.
Reflux.
Undigested food in stool.

Sometimes the problem isn’t too much stomach acid…
it’s not enough. I see this often even if you’ve been told you need to take Protonix.

Low stomach acid can impact:

* protein digestion (think smelly t***s, and feeling heavy after meals)
* mineral absorption (chronic iron anemia, vitamin D or B12 folate anemia despite supplementation )
* gut bacteria balance (think gas and bloating)
* bile flow (think wiping 5 + times with stools or greasy stools)
* nutrient status
* energy levels
* hair, skin, and nails (thinning hair, ridges on your nails)

One simple functional medicine home test often used is the baking soda burp test 👀

(Important: it’s not diagnostic, but it can give clues.)

Try it and let me know your results in the comments 👀

She didn’t need more restriction.
She needed a strategy. Once she had it, she dove right in. She feels more relaxed now, and reassured because she’s seeing changes with her efforts. She’s know her body can heal.

Here’s what was actually going on:
• digestion was shut down
• blood sugar was unstable
• detox pathways were sluggish
• immune system was overactive

So instead of guessing, we:
→ supported digestion
→ opened detox pathways
→ stabilized her metabolism
→ calmed immune triggers

And the result?
Everything improved at once.

This is what happens when you stop chasing symptoms
and start supporting systems.
