New Kingdom Trailriders (NKT) is a nonprofit, tax-exempt 501(c)(3) corporation founded by a group of Christian horse owners wishing to dedicate their animal toward helping others. This desire to be of service to the community has produced a therapeutic horseback riding program for the purpose of contributing positively to the cognitive, physical, emotional, and social wellbeing of people with disabilities and challenges in the greater Quad City area and surrounding communities. NKT is affiliated with and accredited by Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International (PATH). PATH provides support through setting of safety standards, accreditation, instructor certification, insurance coverage, literature and continuing education seminars which establishes program standards and techniques and provides other professional support to therapeutic horseback riding programs across the nation. PATH is dedicated to promoting the development and expansion of quality horseback riding programs for people with challenges. Since 1984, NKT has provided equine assisted therapeutic programs for the education and recreational benefit of physically, mentally, and emotionally disabled and challenged individuals. Today, NKT works with approximately 80 to 100 students in a given year, ranging from ages four to adult. Why Horseback Riding? Horseback riding helps individuals who face physical, mental, social and emotional challenges enrich their lives through: - Mental Stimulation - Physical Strengthening - Emotional Development - Social Interaction The horses' soothing rhythm, strength, warmth, and three-dimensional movement patterns provide healthy exercises for the rider while improving their circulation and muscle tone. Most riders show significant improvements in their core strength, fine and gross motor skills, coordination, tone, self confidence, mobility, social skills, and even verbalization after participating in NKT’s programs. NKT is the only premier Accredited PATH facility providing therapeutic riding of this kind in the Quad City Area.

Mission: To empower individuals of all ages and abilities to reach their full potential through equine assisted activities.

2021 Riding Season

As our riding season for 2020 finishes up in just a few short weeks, we are quickly starting to plan for our 2021 riding season schedule!

This year our ridership has grown tremendously and holding your spot is even more important than ever before.

2020 Riders: Please know that we will do our best to hold your current spot but hold fees need to be paid ASAP. If you let us know by this Friday, November 13th, that you/your rider would like to hold a specific day and time we will be sure to work with you on getting the payment squared away.

Please email Monika with any questions you may have about hold fees. [email protected]

Our policy on hold fees being paid to ensure your spot is held, will be much more strictly enforced this year as lessons are already beginning to fill up.

Remember that hold fees are ultimately a portion of your session fee paid in advance and will guarantee your day and time for the year when paid in full. Hold fee's are non-refundable.

Group lesson hold fee's are $25 per session.
Private lesson hold fee's are $30 per session.

2021 Session Dates:

Session 1 2/22/2021 - 4/2/2021
Session 2 4/12/2021 - 5/21/2021
Session 3 5/31/2021 - 7/9/2021
Session 4 7/19/2021 - 8/27/2021
Session 5 9/6/2021 - 10/15/2021
Session 6 10/25/2021 - 12/3/2021

Day's and times that lessons will be offered in 2021 are listed below.

Thank you,
NKT Team

It’s November 10th of a crazy year in the middle of our last session of the riding season. As I sit at my desk I can’t help but smile as I listen to the chatter in the alleyway. I’m currently “in the weeds” on this unusually warm day bringing much needed rain. The staff and volunteers are buzzing about getting our herd, the foundation of our program, ready for a long day of leasons, as I have new volunteers filling out paperwork. All while I sit here listening and watching feeling truly blessed.
Today New Kingdom Trailriders will give lessons to 21 riders of all ages and abilities. Just 21 of the 65 lives we will empower during this one six week session alone. The 3 new volunteers will join the 14 others today who are part of an army of 125 volunteers who work so hard to make this place run smoothly. Our staff, the heart of our program, will work tirelessly to ensure our riders are safe and reaching their full potential....always!! And me, I sit here “in the weeds”....the result of a busy, functioning, growing barn with a full heart as I listen to all the sounds of true acceptance, encouragement and empowerment!!!
Words cannot express how full my heart is on this fall day!!! -Jodie

Jodie Barton
Jodie Barton began her Journey at New Kingdom Trailriders as a volunteer nearly 6 years ago. As the mother and primary care taker of her then teenage daughter whom struggles with mental illness, Jodie did not realize how much she was struggling with depression, anxiety, and fear, until she once again found joy and healing while at New Kingdom Trailriders. Her time spent at New Kingdom Trailriders recharged her and gave her the strength and courage to tackle what the day brought her way. In 2018, the position of Executive Director became available and Jodie desperately wanted to help others discover the magic of New Kingdom Trailriders and she knew this would be her opportunity to do so. Since becoming Executive Director, Jodie has been able to spread awareness as to the benefits of therapeutic horseback riding not only for those who struggle physically, but also mentally, socially, and emotionally. Jodie’s passion for the program is contagious and together with her team of horses, staff and volunteers, has been able to touch and empower the lives of many Quad Citizens and more than double their number of participants.
To this day, Jodie finds peace, joy and healing while at the barn. She is inspired daily by the participants, her staff and the Quad Cities’ community.

Ann couldn't stop talking about her horse therapy class after we toured the barn and petted some of the large gentle animals. She couldn't wait to start her first riding session! Even though she was afraid of heights, she soon learned to trust the volunteer side walkers and horse leaders as well as the horse. Now it is HER horse! She is looking forward to Saturday Sept. 22 to take photos with her horse. It will help make up the new 2019 NKT calendar!
