🎊 We are so thrilled to be announcing our new partnership with the South Dakota State University's Early Childhood Education Club! They will be taking on the themeing and planning of our monthly Fun for All: Open Gym Program. In that role, they will be getting some amazing hands on experience with kiddos of all abilities and we will benefit from their passion and wealth of new ideas! We are so excited to see all the fun things they will bring to life for our families! Come meet the ECE Club at our 🍂 Fun for All: November Open Gym, coming up on Sunday, November 15th.

🎤 More about the ECE Club: "We are a club that strives to empower teachers of young children and show the importance of early childhood education. Through our club we hope that our members will gain meaningful relationships with professionals and peers, as well as gain understanding about who we are as educators and what we can do for children in the professional field!"

💚 We are in the FIRST week of our South Dakota Gives challenges, leading up to Giving Tuesday. This week, they asked us to share about someone new who joined us in our mission within the past year. We'll be posting every week in response to their prompts to enter into a chance to win a cash prize!

🎉 Join us in welcoming Nicole Zobel to the Fun & Friends team!

💙 Nicole has joined our Events Committee! In that role, she will be helping to plan and host both general events (like Moms Nights and Dads Nights) as well as special events like our upcoming 3rd Annual Wrap Party and the to-be-planned Parent Mixer! Nicole got to dip her toe into the planning pond with our recent All Family Picnic. If you were there, you might have met her at either the bubble station or the tie-dye station!

"Hi! I’m Nicole, and I’m so excited to be joining the Fun & Friends team! My husband and I have two daughters, and our youngest has autism and DDX3X syndrome. Being her mom has opened my eyes to a world I never knew much about before. It has taught me so much about patience, understanding, and just how important it is for everyone to feel included, accepted, and valued.

As a parent, I know firsthand how much it means to find a place where your child can simply be themselves, have fun, make friends, and feel like they belong. Sometimes the little things that others may take for granted mean the absolute world to families like ours.That’s what makes Fun & Friends so special to me. I’m excited to be part of something that brings people together, creates meaningful experiences, and reminds families that they aren’t alone.

I can’t wait to meet everyone, make new connections, and be part of this amazing community! 💜"

📣 Vendor Registration for the 2027 Family-Friendly Disability Resource Expo is now open, and our first round of invitations have been sent out! Local disability providers, please be sure to check your inboxes and spam folders.

🎪 The Expo is coming back even bigger & better and is moving to the Sioux Falls Convention Center. This one-day event brings together individuals, families, caregivers, and professionals to explore the diverse resources and services available locally for individuals with disabilities from birth through adulthood, including: medical, educational, therapeutic, recreational, post high school resources & more.

👤 By participating in the expo, your business or organization will have the opportunity to network with other providers and resources in the community, engage with potential customers who are interested in learning about what you offer, and demonstrate your commitment to supporting the disability community!

❄️ THE WINTER BALL IS RETURNING ❄️

🩵 Please save the date for our 3rd Annual Winter Ball for teens and adults with disabilities, returning on Saturday, January 30th.

🩵 Each year, we've loved watching this event grow! We were pleasantly surprised to outgrow our previous venue so quickly, and we have decided to move the Ball to the Prairie View Event Hall. The new venue will give us more space to continue to grow and to get down and DANCE 🕺🏻💃🏻

📣 Join us in welcoming Melanie Wipf to the Fun & Friends team!

💙 Melanie has stepped into the volunteer role of 3•2•1 Fun Program Coordinator! In that role she will be helping to welcome our youngest members into Fun & Friends by planning and hosting monthly events for our birth-5 program, as well as moderating the private parent group for that age-group, which can be found here: 3•2•1 Fun!

🎤 More about Melanie in her own words:

"My name is Melanie Wipf, and I’m mom to Yusuf, who will be turning 4 in November and attends school in the Harrisburg School District. My husband, Mehmet, Yusuf, and I moved to South Dakota in 2024 after I spent 19 years teaching in international schools overseas. We spent our first year back in the U.S. in Aberdeen before moving to Sioux Falls in October 2025. Although I’m relatively new to living in Sioux Falls, I’ve been coming back to the area for many years whenever I was home from overseas.

Yusuf has a rare genetic condition called tuberous sclerosis, and finding Fun and Friends has connected our family with many wonderful people and resources. I’m really looking forward to meeting more families through this group, learning from one another, sharing resources and experiences, and helping create a welcoming space where families can connect and support each other.

I’m excited to be coordinating the group and getting to know all of you! 😊"

💐 Join us in showing Abby Kayser some love, thanking her for a job extremely well done, and wishing her the best of luck as she steps down from her Program Coordinator volunteer position.

💙 In her two years of serving Fun & Friends, she has not only helped our events come to life, but had also spearheaded new event offerings, like our recent Physical Disability Pizza Social.

📋 Abby started out on our 2025 Expo Committee, then took over our birth-5 program, 3•2•1 Fun!, which she has coordinated for over a year. We are forever grateful for all the love, intentionality, and kindness that she poured into her Program Coordinator role, helping to shape the 3•2•1 Fun Pogram into what so many of us know & love!

🚲 We kicked off our Fall Mini Series Strider & Adaptive Bike Class in collaboration with Special Olympics South Dakota, Tiny Tots PT, Inc., and B and K Adaptive Products LLC last night, and had so much fun doing it!

⭐ If you are registered for this mini series and missed the first session, don't worry! We'd love to have you join any of the classes that you can!

TOMORROW is our 🍕 Physical Disability Pizza Social by Fun & Friends! Let's meet your other hostesses, Kelly:

"Hi, I’m Kelly! My husband and I live near Slayton, MN, and we’re busy raising our four kids, including our oldest son Teddy (11) who has achondroplasia, the most common form of dwarfism. Our family’s journey has inspired me to help our son make meaningful connections, embrace who he is, and learn to be an advocate for himself and for people with all types of disabilities, like his younger brother Joe who has Down syndrome. This has led me to proudly serve on the board of Fun & Friends!"

Join us for an evening of fun, friendship, food, and games tomorrow night (Tuesday, October 6th) from 5:30–7:30 PM at Transitions Doula's beautiful event space. This is a casual meetup for people with physical disabilities of all ages and their families. Pizza & ice cream will be provided! Bring your favorite game to share and play with the group, or just plan to chat and mingle!

Please RSVP through the Facebook event page by the afternoon of October 6 so we can make sure we have enough food for everyone. We’d love to see you there!

We'll be joining in on the fun happening at the New Directions Down Syndrome Association's 26th Annual Buddy Walk this morning from NOW until 1pm at Pasley Park.
